RAMBAM FOR THE 3 WEEKS

The Midrash recounts an interesting dialogue that followed G-d’s directive to Ezekiel to instruct the recently exiled Jewish People about the design of the third Holy Temple:

“Master of the world!” Ezekiel said. “Why are You telling me to go and tell Israel the form of the House. They are now in exile in the land of our enemies—is there anything they can do about it? Let them be until they return from the exile. Then, I will go and inform them.”

“Should the construction of My House be ignored because My children are in exile?” G-d retorted. “The study of the design of the Holy Temple as detailed in the Torah can be equated to its actual construction.”

Based on this concept, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson of righteous memory, requested that – especially during the Three Weeks, the period of mourning for the Holy Temple that we entered this past Sunday – we study the laws concerning the construction of the Temple. And as we stand on the threshold of the Redemption, we study these laws with the awareness that they will be quite practical in the imminent future!
