URGENT! TEHILLIM 4 Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha(Rav Elyashiv)

This evening, a gathering was held at the bais medrash of Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, located adjacent to his home at 10 Rechov Chanan in Meah Shearim, with the participation of his children and close talmidim, and members of his daily Gemara shiur. The gathering was held to beseech the Ribono Shel Olam to grant a refuah sheleimah to the posek hador.

In recent weeks, Rav Elyashiv hasn’t been feeling well, but ensured that his weakness did not disturb his regular schedule of shiurim. He continued to go to his bais medrash each day and deliverd shiurim there.

Two weeks ago, his personal doctor visited him at his home and decided that Rav Elyashiv should not be taken to the hospital for his ailments but should rather remain at home.

The pain did not subside, however, and at the beginning of last week, Rav Elyashiv did not go to his bais medrash for tefillos or shiurim. On Sunday, at a meeting between doctors and Rav Elyashiv’s close confidante, Rav Yosef Efrati, it was concluded that Rav Elyashiv would undergo various tests at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center.

Thus, this morning, Rav Elyashiv was taken to Shaarei Tzedek for a series of tests and examinations. In yeshivos worldwide, in Eretz Yisroel and in chutz la’aretz - in Mir, Lakewood, Ponovezh and Chevron, to name a few - bnei Torah recited Tehillim for Rav Elyashiv.

Reporter Shlomo Kook, who is close to Mishpachas Elyashiv, related that in the last days, Rav Elyashiv has endured much discomfort. He added that Rav Elyashiv remarked, “Every day of bruit - health - is a miracle.”

All are asked to daven for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha, that he be given the strength to continue leading and guiding Klal Yisroel ad bias hagoel.

Rescue teams conducted searches through the forests near Haifa this evening in an attempt to locate a 14-year-old boy from Bnei Brak who went missing during a hike with his family in Nachal Sfunim. According to reports, the family had split into two groups during the hike, and both groups thought that the boy was with the other. Man posing as UPS worker robs Skokie man

Police in Skokie were looking for two men, including one dressed as a UPS deliveryman, who held a 56-year-old man at knifepoint, tied him up and stole some belongings from his home this morning in the northern suburb, police said tonight.

Between 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., the suspect posing as a deliveryman knocked on a door of the man's home in the 4200 block of Suffield Court. When the 56-year-old answered the door, the suspect said he had a package for him, told him he needed to sign for it and that his pen ran out of ink.

When the victim turned around to look for another pen, the suspect "entered the house, put a knife to the victim's neck and demanded money," said Skokie Police Cmdr. Michael Ruth.

The other suspect, who was also described as dressed in some sort of uniform, entered the house, took the victim upstairs and tied him up with duct tape, Ruth said. The suspects then ransacked the house, and allegedly took money and jewelry from the home.

The suspect fled the scene in the victim's vehicle. The victim, who Ruth said was "shaken up" but not hurt, eventually managed to break free and flag down a neighbor for help.

The suspect in the UPS uniform is described as a "male with light brown skin" 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8, 160 pounds, Ruth said, adding that he was also wearing a baseball cap. Ruth said the second suspect is described as a black man, about 40, 5 feet 9, 180 to 200 pounds and was also wearing some sort of uniform.

"There's no trend [of incidents such as these] were aware of [in Skokie]," Ruth said. "It's very unusual."

No one was in custody as of tonight and Ruth could not say why the suspects targeted the man's home.

COMMUNITY ALERT

Police warn of attempted child abduction of Far North Side

Police are warning residents of the Far North Side of an attempted child abduction that occurred in the West Rogers Park neighborhood last week.

About 3:45 p.m. Friday, a man got out of a purple van on the 7300 block of North Sacramento Avenue and told a young boy that he would drive him home, according to a Chicago Police community alert. The child apparently was not harmed.

The man was described as between 35 and 39 years old, possibly Hispanic, with short with balding hair, wearing a black shirt and white pants, according to police.

The van may have had a license plate with "K" as the first letter, as well as some type of sticker on the back. The van is said to have rusty hub caps.

Police are advising residents not to allow children to travel alone on the streets, or stand alone at bus stops or in other public areas. They are also reminding parents to caution children to be alert for strangers or suspicious vehicles, and to report any suspicious activity to an adult or police.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Belmont Area Special Victims Unit detectives at (312) 744-8200.
