Schottenstein Talmud Yerushalmi - English Edition [#36] - Tractate Sotah Vol 1 IS AT KESHER STAM

For five generations of the Talmudic era, the great Sages of the Land of Israel flourished in the Galil. There, like the Sages of Babylonia, they debated, expounded, and applied the laws and principles of the Mishnah that were received at Sinai .The sacred learning of those years was gathered in the Talmud Yerushalmi The Jerusalem Tamud. They lived with Roman pogroms and persecution but the flame of Torah burned bright despite it all. Until about 350 C. E., when brutal Roman anti-Semitism decimated the Holy LandÆs yeshivos and silenced its voice of Torah. But the Sages teachings live on in the Talmud Yerushalmi, just as the teachings of Babylonia live one in the Talmud Bavli - The Babylonian Talmud. But while the Sages of Babylonia had another 150 years to redact, clarify and organize the text of the Babylonian Talmud, Roman persecution in the Holy Land made that impossible. Thus, the Jerusalem Talmud is exceedingly difficult, and despite its great significance it has been a closed book to all but select, elite scholars. Now, thanks to the outstanding scholars who produced the classic Schottenstein Edition of Talmud Bavli, the lock is being removed on yet another treasure-house of Torah Sheball Peh, the Oral Law. This project has been enthusiastically welcomed and endorsed by Torah leaders in Israel and America.20% OFF.

Aneinu Update on Miriam Bas Shoshana

Earlier this week, Matzav.com reported on the story of 7-year-old Miriam, who was found unconscious in a pool in Pomona, NY. We are B”H able to report that after round the clock tefillos and mitzvos done in Miriam’s zechus, doctors say her blood pressure other vitals have stabilized. Additionally, Miriam was seen tearing up, a sign that her body is hydrated. However, her condition still isn’t good and Miriam basShoshana still needs your tefillos and rachamei shamayim. A few months ago Miriam’s father, Shaya, began spearheading efforts to build a Mikva in his new community in Pomona.  This growing kehila currently has 150 families which presents an obvious need for this most important endeavor. Now during this eis tzara the family is trying to raise money so that the zechusim for the waters of this future Mikvah can stand as a merit for Miriam. Every donation of any size is a zechus and also a tremendous source of Chizuk for the family. https://thechesedfund.com/cause/raising-money-for-a-mikva-as-a-zechus-for-drowning-victimAnother option is to send a check. Checks can be made out to Cong Pomona Heights. Please put Mikva in the note area. Address to mail checks is Cong Pomona Heights c/o Zidele 4 Woodfield Rd Pomona NY 10970

OU TORAH Influence & Power By Britain's Former Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks

Knowing that he is about to die, Moses turns to God and asks him to appoint a successor: Moses said to the Lord, “May the Lord, God of the spirits of all mankind, appoint a man over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.” (Num. 27-15:17). It is a farsighted, selfless gesture. As Rashi comments: “This is to tell the praise of the righteous – that when they are about to leave this world, they put aside their personal needs and become preoccupied with the needs of the community.” Great leaders think about the long-term future. They are concerned with succession and continuity. So it was with Moses. God tells Moses to appoint Joshua, ‘a man in whom is the spirit’. He gives him precise instructions about how to arrange the succession: “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand on him. Have him stand before Elazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence. Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him… At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.” (Num. 27:18-21). There are three actions involved here: [1] Moses was to lay his hand on Joshua, [2] have him stand before Elazar the priest and the entire assembly, and [3] give him “some of your authority [me-hodecha]”. What is the significance of this threefold process? What does it tell us about the nature of leadership in Judaism?

Nachum Explored the New Kehot Publications’ Tehillim with Rabbi Yosef Marcus

Nachum welcomed Rabbi Yosef B. Marcus to this morning’s JM in the AM to take an in-depth look at the new Kehot Publications’ Sefer Tehillim. From the Kehot website: ” Tehillim with commentary from the Talmud, Midrash, Kabbalah, Classic commentators and the Chasidic masters. For simple poetic genius, for pathos, sweetness and heartfelt piety, King David’s Book of Psalms is unique. The Psalms are songs of praise to the Creator, speaking of His greatness, goodness and mercy, as well as of His power and justice. The Psalms reflect the full spectrum of life’s experiences, both of the individual and of the Jewish nation collectively. No wonder than that throughout the ages, Psalms has served as a boundless source of inspiration, courage and hope. Rabbi Yosef B. Marcus has once again compiled a staggering treasure house of commentary and insights on this fundamental text, offering us a deeper appreciation for every letter and every word of Psalms. Anthologized from hundreds of commentators, classic to obscure, this work will allow Tehillim readers to bring newly-found inspiration and meaning to their daily, weekly and monthly recitations. The commentary is rounded off by an incisive Introduction, bibliography and index. The physical appearance is likewise enhanced by original artwork, two-color printing and an elegant deluxe binding.” Visit the Kehot website HERE.
