Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Update - Best Buy

Update - B"H I was told that the police have things under control at the Best Buy on Howard and at Lincolnwood Town Center. At Best Buy about 6 people were taken into custody. The others escaped, one of them stealing a customer's car from the parking lot.

 *************************************************************************************************
My neighbor just told me that she just left the Jewel on Howard. They were closing the store and as she was leaving 50 people pulled up and started crashing into Best Buy. She said everyone should get in their houses, lock their doors, and set your alarms if you have them.

Saying Tehillim wouldn't hurt.

Public Safety Update

May 31, 2020

Dear Neighbor,

It has been a very difficult weekend as protests erupted in Chicago and across the nation after the murder of George Floyd. I join with my colleagues and faith leaders who call for a peaceful response to this unjustifiable act.

I hope everyone will join me and concerned citizens across the City for a moment of silence today at 5 p.m. Please come together in this effort to sustain the legacy of George Floyd and call for an end to violence and racial inequality.

Further, to protect the public safety, especially in light of the coronavirus outbreak, the City of Chicago is temporarily reducing access to the Central Business District and Loop. Access will be granted only to employees whose businesses are located within the designated boundaries, individuals who reside in the surrounding area and residents engaged in essential activities.  The impacted boundaries are:
  • Division St. from Lake Shore Drive and N. Halsted St.
  • N. Halsted from Division St. to Milwaukee Ave. and Grand Ave.
  • Milwaukee Ave. from Grand Ave. to Kinzie St.
  • Canal St. from Kinzie St. to 26th St.
  • 26th St. from Canal St. to Lake Shore Drive
Additionally, CTA service has also been suspended for trains and buses coming in and out of the Loop for public safety reasons. CTA will provide regular service updates at: www.transitchicago.com.

This latest effort is in addition to the mayor's citywide curfew for all residents and visitors, which is in effect from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily until further notice.

May we all get through these difficult times quickly and come together to support one another and care for each other.

Sincerely,

Debra L. Silverstein

Chicago Mikvah Association

As you are probably aware, there is currently a 9:00 pm curfew throughout Chicago.

We have been in touch with the police and we have been told that a mikvah visit does not constitute a violation of the Chicago curfew.

In the event that you do get pulled over going to or from the mikvah, just tell them this is for a MIKVAH visit which is allowed as per Sergeant Sofere. The officers have instructions to allow you to proceed.

We thank Rabbi Soroka and the Agudah for their help with this.
