Time after time we have learned of the Divine Hand protecting King David as he flees and hides from Shaul. The Vilna Gaon (Likutei HaGr”a – Tehillim perek 32) relates an interesting Medresh (see also Otzar Medrashim) regarding King David and this Divine protection. King David, the Medresh reveals, wondered what benefit spiders bring to the world? Hashem responded, “You scoff at the creation? A time will come and you will know why they were created!”
