As King David approaches his death, he gives instructions to his son, Shlomo, how to conduct himself in his personal life and how to conduct himself towards others. One of those people who King David gave guidance to Shlomo about was Shimi ben Geira. He commanded, “Behold, with you is Shimi ben Geira, the Benjamite from Bachurim. He cursed me with a powerful curse on the day I went to Machanayim; but he came down to me at the Jordan and I swore to him by Hashem, saying, 'I will not put you to death by the sword.' But now, you should not hold him guiltless … and you shall bring his white hair to the grave in blood.”
