Our chapter begins with a very detailed account of the era and time in which Shlomo built the Beis Hamikdash. The chapter begins, “In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Children of Israel's exodus from the land of Egypt – in the fourth year of Sholomo's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month – he built the Temple for Hashem.” The Abarbenel instructs us to analyze this verse very carefully. He first asks why the Navi counts the year from the exodus from Egypt? Why is the year from creation not used? Why is the year from the Covenant Between the Parts not used? Why not simply mentioning that it was the fourth year of Shlomo's reign?
