Aneinu Community Alert

I was asked to send out the following alert: On Sunday morning, I left my home in WRP at a little after 4 AM to get to O'Hare Airport  on time for a 6 AM flight. I was on the way to the funeral of a close friend who died suddenly and unexpectedly.  After scraping the frost off of my car, I was about to get into the car when suddenly, a young, 5'5" black male in a dark hoodie appeared out of the shadows with a gun drawn, pointing it right at my chest. He demanded  my money. Within seconds he had another accomplice appear right behind him. Already in a difficult frame of mind - compounded by the grief of my friend passing and my lack of sleep - I began shrieking at the gunman that I had no money. He urged me to  be quiet, but I couldn't control myself I kept saying (loudly) over and over again that I had no money. I said that I am going to a funeral and that I had nothing on me. Meanwhile, I noticed a 3rd person approaching me from the side. He demanded that I empty my pockets. However, by this time, his accomplices were themselves nervous and they decided to run away. The 3rd guy also ran. They warned me to not call the cops as they left. I jumped into my car and drove off as quickly as possible (and subsequently called the police, of course!).  I was extremely fortunate that they didn't harm me. I want to urge anyone reading this to be extra careful and alert whenever you go outside, especially if you will be out while it's dark. Also bear in mind that if you will still be outside for a while (e.g. to clean or warm up a car) remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings continuously. I didn't see these robbers coming as they appeared from behind a large van. If your view is obstructed, you are compromised. Stay alert and safe! This happened in the vicinity of Mozart and Albion on Sunday. It happened to another person the next day in the vicinity of Mozart and Pratt.
