Update on Search for Rogers Park Killer

October 10, 2018
Dear Neighbor,

I am writing to provide an update on the police search for the perpetrator of two shooting deaths in East Rogers Park last week.

The case continues to receive an almost unprecedented level of attention from the Chicago Police Department. Forty detectives are still assigned to the case, working together with numerous police officers and two federal agencies.

In addition, the police are continuing to maintain a strong presence throughout the 24th District and on the lakefront.

Community involvement has been vital to this ongoing investigation. Police have followed up on more than 230 tips submitted by neighborhood residents. In addition, detectives continue to review and download video surveillance from surrounding areas, including CTA video, and are canvassing the area for additional information.

If you have any information about the shootings or the suspect, please call Cook County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-535-7867 or visit www.cookcountycrimestoppers.org.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect has grown to $20,000, thanks to generous offers by the Jewish United Fund, the Rogers Park Builders Group, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Cook County Crime Stoppers.

The police have released a compilation of several videos of the suspect taken by surveillance cameras. Note that the suspect walks with a unique gait, with his feet pointed out. Please take a moment to view the videos below:
The police also released the following image of the suspect, pulled from the surveillance videos. According to the official Community Alert, he is described as a black male, with a thin build and wearing dark clothing, including a mask that obscured his face below the eyes. He is believed to be between 5'10" and 6' in height.

If you have any information that you believe would be helpful to the police investigation, contact Cook County Crime Stoppers or call the Area North Bureau of Detectives at (312) 744-8200.

In the meantime, the 24th District CAPS Office has prepared additional safety recommendations. Please click here to view the flyers. I also have "We Call the Police" signs available in my office. Feel free to stop by and pick one up to post in your front window.

I will continue to update you on any new information about the investigation as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Debra L. Silverstein
