Pesach Alerts

1)  As we shop for Pesach its worth remembering an issue which seems to come up every year.  Stores designate a "Pesach aisle" which is filled with food that is kosher for Pesach, and it is natural that we assume everything in that section of the store is suitable for Pesach.  Unfortunately, that is not always true either because the store wasn't careful when they filled the aisle, the stock clerk didn't realize that the year-round package looks almost exactly like the Pesach one, or a consumer mistakenly put a year-round product down in the Pesach aisle.  These issues are even more pronounced in supermarkets which are not 100% kosher (e.g. Jewel, Mariano's ) because in those stores there is no official hashgacha on the Pesach aisles, which means that mistakes may never get discovered.  Additionally, the store might put out a product with a weak hashgacha, without realizing that consumers do not want that product.  We therefore encourage everyone to check packaging carefully and make sure that everything they buy is truly kosher for Pesach.

2)  Please note that the cRc Pesach Fair which was scheduled to take place on April 5, 2020 at HTC in Skokie is being canceled due to the coronavirus. Those relying on the Fair to kasher their keilim should please call their Shul Rabbi for guidance.  In addition, the cRc has some instructional videos on kashering at home which can be found here http://www.crcweb.org/videos.php#KasherKitchen
