A. In general, increasing our level of concentration (kavana) in tefilla and reciting extra chapters of Tehillim is an appropriate response during every "ais tzara" (time of crisis). Furthermore, we should give more tzedakah, spend more time studying Torah, and engage in acts of kindness towards others. Rav Asher Weiss noted that there are 3 specific tefillos that are impactful when there is a mageifa (epidemic). - Parshas Ha'ketores – The Zohar (Parshas Vayeira) states in the name of Rebbi Pinchas that reciting the Parshas Ha'Ketores with concentration provides protection in the time of a plague.
- Parsha of Akeidas Yitzchak – The Zohar (Tikunim, tinyana 139a) records that invoking Akeidas Yitzchak through the recitation of this parsha helps stop the spread of disease.
- Reciting one hundred berachos every day – The Tur (OC 46) quotes Rav Natronai Gaon that in the days of Dovid Hamelech there was a plague, and it was revealed to Dovid that reciting one hundred berachos every day would bring the plague to an end.
