Bnos Bikur Cholim to Distribute Much-Needed Supplies to Home-Bound Seniors
COVID-19 pulled the rug out from under Bnos Bikur Cholim's (BBC) usual programming. No more visits to Holocaust survivors by high school volunteers. No more weekly nursing home visits by high school volunteers.

But BBC is still in full swing, and Mrs. Chana Baila Hass, National Director of Bnos Agudath Israel, is as busy as ever. "We had to change our model in response to the times," explains Mrs. Hass, "I can't overestimate the importance of providing for the needs of seniors during these trying times."

Since April, BBC set up girls and women to connect with senior friends by phone. Bnos now has over 260 BBC pairs! The program is hugely successful, but Mrs. Hass knew that BBC could do even more.

Thanks to a generous grant from Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivors Initiative, sponsored by City Council of New York, Bnos will be distributing Corona safety supplies to seniors including masks, hand sanitizer, tissues, and hand soap.

Due to safety concerns, seniors are more homebound than ever and may not be able to access these essential supplies on their own.

Mrs. Hass expressed her appreciation to the Elie Wiesel Holocaust Survivors Initiative who helps fund BBC's other Holocaust survivor programs, too. "They've adapted to COVID19 with new initiatives, sponsoring the Corona safety supplies and our phonemates."

Please reach out to Mrs. Hass at cbhass@agudah.org or call 212-797-9000 ext. 330, if you'd like to become a phonemate. BBC still has seniors looking for partners!
Or, do you know an older person in your neighborhood? Pick up the phone and give them a call. Giving ten minutes of your day can be life-changing for your senior friend. Let's all think out of the box to take care of our most vulnerable and precious population.
Agudath Israel of America Hails Governor Cuomo's Executive Order Allowing In-Person Special Education Services
This Friday, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order allowing in-person special education services for the upcoming summer months.
This order offers great relief to worried parents all across the state. The period of COVID-19 was difficult for special needs children as essential therapies and programs were abruptly cut-off, leaving parents fearful for their children's general wellbeing and growth.

Agudath Israel's Project LEARN has been hard at work these past months, advocating on behalf of the special needs community. Mrs. Leah Steinberg, Director of Project LEARN, said, "Agudath Israel is relieved by this executive order. I have spoken to many parents who have witnessed their child's regression over the past months. Hopefully, this Executive Order will stop the regression and allow our children's health to finally progress."

With this executive order in place, New York City Department of Education, as well as other Education Departments throughout the state, can begin to administer the necessary services to eligible children.

Project LEARN will continue to work on securing more services for our special-needs children as New York State continues to reopen.

For questions or updates, please email projectlearn@agudah.org.

Last Chance: Survey for NJ Residents
Dear Friends,

We are all waiting with anticipation to see if our schools will be allowed to reopen this September, in time for the new school year. There are many factors to consider and the New Jersey Department of Education is currently engaged in the process of deciding if and under what circumstances schools will reopen.

As part of it's ongoing discussions, the Department of Education has reached out to various stakeholders and specifically requested input from parents around the State. To that end, the Department has released a short, 14-question survey for parents to answer that it will take into account as it moves forward with its decision process.

This is our opportunity to be heard! We strongly encourage all parents to engage in the process by completing the survey and ensuring our collective voices are heard. Please take a moment to complete the survey here.

As the State would like to receive responses by today, Monday, June 8th, your immediate attention is greatly appreciated.

May we be zoche to yeshuos, refuos and besuros tovos,

Agudath Israel of California Lauds Governor Newsom's Decision to Reopen Schools and Camps
This past Friday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced guidelines for the reopening of schools, day camps, and childcare institutions, in the State of California.

The guidelines, set to go into effect on Friday June 12th, allow for the reopening of these essential institutions as long as the appropriate health precautions are put into place. The document includes healthy hygiene practices such as intensified cleaning, disinfection, and social distancing.

The Governor's announcement marks the culmination of a month-long advocacy effort by Agudath Israel of California to reopen vital institutions within the Orthodox Jewish community. Agudath Israel of California Chairman, Dr. Irving Lebovics has applauded the Governor's announcement, saying, "Our efforts focused on three goals: to be able to reopen shuls, day camps, and schools, all in a safe and staged manner. We have accomplished those goals."

This coming Friday, the children of California will reunite with their friends and experience a summer filled with social interaction and development.
