Maggid Books Rabbi Lamm Facebook post

Throughout the world, we are reckoning with the suffering of our fellow humans. As well as the global pandemic and the national tragedy in America, the Jewish community suffered a unique loss this week with the passing of Rabbi Dr. Norman Lamm whose books we are honored to publish. No post or comment on social media can adequately address the pain of so many. However, as the people of the book, we are blessed with a rich heritage and wealth of wisdom to draw from at turbulent times. In Israel, this Shabbat, we will read Parashat Beha’alotekha. 52 years ago Rabbi Lamm gave a sermon which can be found in Derashot LeDorot, entitled Violence - Jewish Insights into an Un-Jewish Theme. His sermon addresses the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Dr. King but Rabbi Lamm’s words give us perspective half a century later: “In the eyes of God and Torah... violence is not only a matter of the dramatic assassination that makes the headlines, but it is as well the thousand little assaults that we perpetrate every day against our neighbor’s sensitivity, a friend’s ego, a mate’s peace of mind, a parent’s dignity, a child’s self-respect, a colleagues self-worth, a competitor’s equal opportunity.” May we finally learn the lesson of this sermon to affect real change, may the coming week bring us nothing but health, peace, and happiness, and may Rabbi Lamm’s memory be a blessing. יְהִי שָׁלוֹם בְּחֵילֵךְ שַׁלְוָה בְּאַרְמְנוֹתָיִךְ. May there be peace within your ramparts, prosperity in your palaces. #shabbatshalom #shabbat #shabbatshalom❤️ #tbt #throwbackthursday #peace #peaceful
