Special Coronavirus Update

July 6, 2020
Dear Neighbor,

Travel Quarantine Order Now in Effect

The City has issued a mandatory quarantine on anyone traveling to Chicago from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases. The 14-day quarantine is at the direction of Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Allison Arwady, and is designed to protect the gains our city has made in combating coronavirus.

The Emergency Travel Order is now in effect (as of TODAY, July 6). It includes both Chicago residents returning from travel to a designated state, and travelers arriving in Chicago from a designated state. Travelers from the following states are currently impacted:
  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Arizona
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Idaho
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • Nevada
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah
The list of states will be reviewed and amended every Tuesday, starting July 14.

Under the order, travelers must stay at a single designated home or dwelling for 14 days before doing any activities outside of the home or dwelling. People in quarantine should separate themselves from others as much as possible and check themselves for symptoms. Additional requirements apply. Find more information at www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/covid-19/home/emergency-travel-order.html.

Chicago has made tremendous progress in reducing rates of COVID-19 infection in our city. This travel order is necessary to maintain that gain and stop us from seeing the surge that many states who reopened too fast are experiencing.

Free Fruits and Vegetables at Warren Park

The Warren Park Produce Mobile is back, offering free bags of fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need every month! No qualifications are necessary to receive free produce; anyone can participate with no questions asked!

The mobile will be in the parking lot of Warren Park, 6601 N. Western, the second Wednesday of every month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The next produce giveaway will be this Wednesday, July 8.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to safety concerns, the food pickup will be by drive up ONLY. Walk ups will not be allowed.

Stay Cool This Week!

Chicago is in for scorching hot weather this week. When the mercury climbs this high, it can be dangerous. Please be aware of the very real risks of heat stroke and dehydration and plan accordingly.

Try to stay in air-conditioned buildings as much as possible and avoid the direct sun. Staying hydrated is vital. Drink more water than usual, even if you are not thirsty. If you work or exercise outside, take breaks in an air-conditioned area as often as possible and drink plenty of water.

Remember to check on relatives, neighbors and friends, especially the elderly, to make sure they are safe. If you are unable to make contact, call 311 and request a well-being check. If you have any questions, please call me at (773) 262-1050.

Sincerely,

Debra L. Silverstein
