News from the Agudah:
  • Last chance to have your voices heard in our upcoming election. If you haven't already, then please please go out and vote today. Are you still not so sure that your vote really matters? Click here to read an interview with Rabbi AD Motzen that was shared in time for our last presidential election, four years ago.

  • Thank you Klal Yisroel for joining in yesterday's Yom Tefillah! We heard from many shuls, schools, and individuals who participated - did you know that 80,000 children joined to say Tehillim yesterday? May Hashem hear and answer all of our tefillos b'karov.

  • We regret to inform you of the passing of our chaver R' Naftoli Hirsch. He was a long-time staunch Agudist and a dedicated advisor to our SBCO division. The loss is felt even more keenly because it follows the petirah of his wife a week before.

  • The Bnos Yom Tefillah last week, in honor of Rachel Imeinu's yartzheit, was a big success with over 4,000 women and girls joining. Building off of the inspiration, Bnos has created the Tehillim-in-an-Hour program. See below for details.

  • Yeshiva Services has been working non-stop since Friday afternoon guiding New York State red zone institutions through the reopening process: clarifying details regarding school opening, sending general guidance emails out to yeshivas, and guiding individual yeshivas through the reopening process.

  • The Iyunim B'hilchos Shabbos series continues. See below for full schedule and login information.

80,000 Children Join Agudah and Torah Umesorah in National Yom Tefillah
by Sandy Eller

With Klal Yisroel facing unprecedented challenges on multiple fronts, the voices of 80,000 children from all across the United States rang out in heartfelt prayer during a Yom Tefillah jointly arranged by Agudath Israel of America and Torah Umesorah at the behest of Gedolei Yisroel to coincide with the last day of BaHaB.

Two separate Tehillim teleconferences led by Rabbi Eliezer Ginsburg were arranged for the morning of November 2nd to accommodate elementary schools on both coasts, while shuls, women, mesivtasbatei medrash and Bais Yaakov high schools were urged to say Avinu Malkeinu and five designated perakim of Tehillim in order to awaken rachmei shomayim. Discussing the Yom Tefillah, Rabbi Hillel David noted to an event organizer that special emphasis is placed on the davening of younger children. Quoting the Gemara in Shabbos 119B, Rabbi David explained that the tefillos of tinokos shel beis raban possess unparalleled power.

"It was an amazing experience to say Tehillim knowing that we were part of something bigger," said one Monsey student. "We are going to keep davening for things to get better."

Rabbi Labish Becker, executive director of the Agudah, noted that the unprecedented issues facing Klal Yisroel, including COVID, lockdowns, financial and spiritual challenges and other hardships, make clear the need to turn our collective thoughts and hearts heavenward.

"Throughout the ages we have seen that our tefillos, particularly those of our youngest schoolchildren, have the ability to positively impact even the most difficult of situations," said Rabbi Becker. "It is our greatest hope that the unity and the tefillos of our Yom Tefillah will bring about the refuos and yeshuos that are so desperately needed."
Tehillim and Tefillah in Troubled Times

Last Thursday, Bnos Agudas Yisroel of America hosted a Yom Tefillah in honor of the yahrtzeit of Rochel Imeinu. The topic was women's power of tefilla during these challenging times, and over 4,000 girls and ladies participated!

The program started with Tehillim led by Rebbetzin Malka Partesky. Mrs. Dina Breindel Smith then spoke about the power of emunah during these trying times. She told inspiring stories and offered practical tips on how to bring Hashem into our lives every day.
Rounding off the evening was Bnos's own recording of "On the Roadside," a classic song about Rochel Imeinu. The event was a zechus for a refuah shleimah for Chasiya Chana Leah bas Sara and liluy nishmas Devora bas Yisroel.

The Yom Tefilla was powerful and inspiring, and Mrs. Hass encouraged the girls and women to put the inspiration into practice with Bnos Tehillim in an Hour.

Tehillim in an Hour, liluy nishmas Devora bas Yisroel, is a simple concept: organize a group of girls or women to finish Tehillim on Shabbos afternoon. The beauty is that it works in any place and for any age, in person or virtually.

Each girl's commitment is small: Finish one booklet of Tehillim Mechulak (a set of booklets that divides Tehillim into 30 parts.) It takes about ten minutes. But together, the group has the enormous zechus and protection of saying the entire Sefer Tehillim!

Would you like to start a Tehillim in an Hour program and have Bnos send you a Tehillim Mechulak? Reach out to Mrs. Chana Baila Hass at cbhass@agudah.org or call 212-797-9000 ext. 330.

None of us are helpless in the face of our challenges. We ALL have the enormous power of tefillah and of the klal - IF we choose to use it.
