News from the Agudah:

  • It's not often that the Fast of Asarah B'Teves, the only fast observed on Friday, falls out on Friday, and when it does there are many halachic considerations. See below for a guide on what to do when Asarah B'Teves is on Friday.

  • Tomorrow! Friday, December 25: The Torah Projects Commission in conjunction with Hakhel will be having a special kinus for Asarah B'Teves. For more information and how to join see below.

  • The Agudah Voting Project is expanding and just entered into a new phase - registering high school students to vote. See below for more information and how to get involved.

  • Today we're highlighting the Agudah Convention's session titled Making Shabbos More Than Just Cholent. Click here to watch it. The session is also available to listen to over the phone - see below for instructions.

  • Finally, we regret the error! A recent piece about the CARES Act legislation said, "For individuals, there will be a second round of direct payments to families of $600 per person, which will be tied to income. While this dollar amount remains the same for adults, it represents a boost in the benefit for children." It should have said, "While this dollar amount is a reduction for adults, it remains a boost in the benefit for children." Thank you to the observant reader who pointed this out!
The Halachos of Asarah B'Teves
on Erev Shabbos

This year, we have the rare occurrence of Asarah B'Teves falling out on a Friday. Due to its rarity and the fact that Asarah B'Teves is the only fast that we do observe on a Friday, there are many halachick considerations to take into account. Click here for a guide on the Halachos of Asarah B'Teves on Erev Shabbos, compiled and written by Rabbi Yaakov Robinson, executive director of the Midwest Agudas Yisroel Council of Synagogue Rabbanim, and reviewed by Rabbi Shmuel Fuerst, Dayan, Agudas Yisroel of Illinois. Get out the Vote
Rabbi Yeruchim Silber at a voter registration event at Shevach High School
The Agudah Voting Project entered a new phase this week - registering high school seniors. New York State law allows 16 and 17 year old minors to pre-register so they can immediately begin voting when they turn 18. This week, a number of high schools in Queens were visited and close to 100 seniors registered to vote. The goal of this project is for the Agudah to register as many New York City students as possible in advance of the New York City primary elections this coming June. If you would like our representatives to visit your school to register your students please call 212-797-9000, extension 218, or email votenyc@agudah.org.
