News from the Agudah:

  • "If ever there was anyone who projected the idealized image of an impressive Rosh Yeshiva, it certainly, was he. Rabbi Gifter was a profound lamdan of the highest order; a true genius whose powerful mind never stopped thinking in learning, whose pure mouth never tired of speaking in learning, and from whose prolific pen flowed a never-ending torrent of Torah writing. He was a man of truth who despised falsehood, flattery and frivolity. A brilliant, compelling orator in Yiddish, English and Lashon Hakodesh, he literally kept his audiences spellbound as he delivered addresses that would never be forgotten. Merely standing in his presence was awesome- because you knew that you were standing in the presence of genuine greatness." Today marked the 20th yartzeit of Rabbi Mordechai Gifter zt'l, Telsher Rosh HaYeshiva and member of the Moetzes Gedolai HaTorah. The Agudah Voting Project
Rabbi Yeruchim Silber speaking yesterday to High School Boys at Yeshiva Tiferet Tzion in Queens.
The Agudah Voting Project continues to register high school seniors. New York State law allows 16 and 17 year old minors to pre-register so they can immediately begin voting when they turn 18. The goal of this project is for the Agudah to register as many New York City students as possible in advance of the New York City primary elections this coming June. If you would like our representatives to visit your school to register your students please call 212-797-9000, extension 218, or email votenyc@agudah.org.
Bridge the Distance
A Bnos Bikur Cholim Virtual Event
Patients, particularly seniors, are feeling more and more isolated because they can't have face to face visits and other personal interactions; Bikur Cholim has become more important than ever.  Bnos Bikur Cholim will be holding a virtual event for high school girls and ladies on Monday, January 11 at 8:00 PM EST, to explain how it is possible to still do Bikur Cholim during Covid. The event is presented by Rebbetzin Faigie Horowitz, Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), and will explore virtual options for Bikur Cholim. Rebbetzin Horowitz will give informative and practical tips to help you "bridge the distance" and make virtual Bikur Cholim a reality. To join call 425.436.6277, PIN: 244274.
Webinar with Assemblymembers Daniel Rosenthal and Simcha Eichenstein on Preparing for Session
As the New York State 2021 legislative session gets underway, Agudath Israel was proud to host a special webinar with Assemblymembers Daniel Rosenthal and Simcha Eichenstein to preview the upcoming session. Hosted by Rabbi Yeruchim Silber, Agudah's Director of NY Government Relations and board member and noted activist Chaskel Bennett, the Assemblymen covered a wide range of topics including the state budget situations, status of allocations to yeshivas and other nonpublic schools, and continued operation of schools amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Assemblyman Eichenstein quoted the legendary Agudah leader Rabbi Moshe Sherer z"l who was fond of saying, "We do not ask for special treatment, but we will fight for equitable treatment.
