Daf Yomi Commission Siyum on Pesachim
Introduction to Maseches Shekalim
With just a few blatt remaining until the forthcoming Siyum Maseches Pesachim, excitement is running high in the Daf Yomi world. Tens of thousands of new lomdei HaDaf will be celebrating together with veteran lomdei HaDaf and their families, a formidable achievement of daily dedication to limud HaTorah b'kvius.

History has proven time and time again that Siyumei Masechtos in the Daf Yomi cycle are of the greatest catalysts for limud HaTorah. How many people are finishing Maseches Pesachim in just a few days, who began learning Daf Hayomi due to the inspiration and enthusiasm of the past Siyum HaShas!

Maseches Shekalim, the only masechta from Talmud Yerushalmi that is included in the regular Daf Yomi schedule, is only eleven dafim in the Slavita edition of Shas, upon which the original Daf Yomi calendar was based. The later Vilna Shas edition included in its publication on Shekalim a commentary תקלין חדתין, which expanded the masechta to twenty-one blatt. Many of the Daf Yomi maggidei shiur found it too difficult to cover Shekalim adequately in just eleven days. There was simply too much material to be absorbed properly. In the early 1970's, Rabbi Yosef Aronson zt"l, a talmid of the Slabodka Yeshiva, who taught the daf for many years, attempted to solve this problem. First, he wrote Sefer Shiklei Yosef, a simple running commentary that serves as a digest of the classic perushim on Maseches Shekalim. Second, in consulatation with the gedolei Torah of that era, HaRav Moshe Feinstein zt"l, and the Bais Yisroel of Ger zt"l, he suggested that the Daf Yomi calendar follow the Vilna edition of Shekalim rather than the Slavita edition, to allow for twenty-one days instead of the original thirteen to cover the masechta. With the beginning of the eighth machzor of Daf Yomi in 1975, the Daf Yomi calendar was changed to include twenty-one days of Maseches Shekalim as per the Vilna Shas.

Mazel Tov! Mazel Tov! Mazel Tov! And Hatzlacha as you begin Maseches Shekalim in the 14th Machzor of the Daf HaYomi.
800 Girls, 3 Speakers, 1 Amazing Evening
What happens when you have 800 girls on a conference phone line?

Amazing inspiration and practical growth!

Last Thursday, Bnos Agudas Yisroel hosted a Virtual Evening of Inspiration. In a regular year, we would have had our annual Bnos Convention. That wasn't possible, but we wanted to reach out to our Bnos Leaders to keep them connected and show we care.

Honestly, we weren't sure how such a large phone event would come off, but it surpassed our expectations in every way. The feedback we're getting is incredible.

Mrs. Chaya Aviva Katz, principal of Bnos Chaya Academy, spoke first about a Bnos leader's mindset. Mrs. Katz emphasized that a leader has to think about the big picture. She can't only focus on herself and what works for her. She must make decisions based on what's best for the group.

Rebbetzin Nechama Denbo was next. She explained how small actions could have a big effect. She urged the leaders to recognize even the small things their Bnosers do. Some girls are always the focus of attention, but what about the ones that aren't in the limelight? The ones who unassumingly help and contribute? They need recognition, too!

Rabbi Avi Frank, director of Camp Agudah West, followed with a storytelling workshop. He showed that you could make a simple story interesting and relevant by adding details to bring out a lesson. To demonstrate, he told the same story two ways, with the details bringing out completely different takeaways.

The grand finale was an interactive trivia game. Girls called into a separate number to answer the questions. "It was off the charts," says Mrs. Chana Baila Hass, National Director of Bnos. "The girls stayed engaged in the game for a full 45 minutes. The phones were ringing off the hook."

Competition was stiff, but the winning city with the most correct answers was Monsey.

IY" H next year, we'll be able to host in-person events again. But, for now, we're thrilled with the chizuk, practical training, and inspiration from our virtual evening.
