News from the Agudah:

  • Opening and running nonpublic schools is an extremely difficult task. Agudah's New Jersey office partnered with Hutman & Hutman CPA to create a handbook to help new schools with compliance, regulations, government programs, and other topics relating to nonpublic schools in New Jersey. See below for more details and how to get a copy of the handbook.

  • "The broken glass and bones of Kristallnacht shattered all illusions. It showed, once and for all, that the Nazis knew no limits." Tonight marks 83 years since Kristallnacht, the start of the Holocaust. See below to read some personal accounts of that terrible night.

  • Yarchei Kallah will continue this week on the topic of Iyunim B'hilchos Shabbos. See below for this week's schedule and how to join.
New Jersey Office of Agudath Israel and Hutman & Hutman CPA Release NJ Yeshiva Handbook
Due to the explosive growth of schools and mosdos hatorah opening up in New Jersey, Agudath Israel is thrilled to announce the publication of its first ever Yeshiva Handbook. The 168-page handbook contains a step-by-step guide on how to open a non-profit, nonpublic school in New Jersey. Written in easy-to-understand layman's language, the handbook guides nonpublic schools on how to incorporate, set up payroll, maintain adequate internal control and recordkeeping measures, and stay in full compliance with federal and New Jersey regulations. The handbook also contains a breakdown of every available nonpublic school government program in New Jersey, and how nonpublic schools can most effectively access and use the available resources.

The handbook is a collaborative project between Agudath Israel and Hutman & Hutman, a New Jersey based accounting firm. "Many of our clients are nonprofit entities," said Mr. Ari Hutman, managing partner of the nonprofit department at Hutman & Hutman. "With all the nuances that specifically pertain to nonprofits, it is extremely beneficial to have all the applicable information contained in one, user friendly source. We are grateful to have been a part of this effort."

Rabbi Avi Schnall, director of the Agudah's New Jersey office noted that foresight in opening a nonpublic school is crucial. "In order for any mosad to be able to operate at its best, it is critical that they are in full compliance from the very beginning," said Rabbi Schnall. "This handbook will help new mosdos avoid common problems, and it will give existing school administrators a familiarity with the various programs available."

Rabbi Schnall also thanked Mr. Hutman for investing the time and energy into making the handbook a success. "Mr. Hutman is a true professional and it was an honor to work together," he said.

Hard copies of the handbook can be picked up for free at the New Jersey office of Agudath Israel at 930B East County Line Road, Suite 203, Lakewood, NJ 08701, or at the offices of Hutman and Hutman at 435 East County Line Road, Lakewood, NJ 08701.
