Shira was inspired, after sharing the story of her own struggle with poor health, to provide a platform for Jewish women of all backgrounds to share their stories and provide support for others. The Layers Project provides an outlet for women to share their stories and start conversations relating to mental and physical illness, abuse, infertility, pregnancy loss, relationships, and more, opening the conversation about what were once taboo topics for the better of the Jewish community at large. The Layers Project Magazine is an online media source for in-depth insights into the lives of Jewish women. First came the successful photojournalism blog, The Layers Project, which features the stories of Jewish women in their own words. Now, as a response to reader interest, we are launching a magazine to cater to the cultural, emotional, and spiritual needs of Jewish women. We seek to combat the removal of images of women from Jewish media and hope to share in the challenges and triumphs of being a Jewish woman.
