Thursday, May 5 – ד' אייר

Tehillim 70

David HaMelech is confident that Am Yisrael will eventually be redeemed from the exile. But he is not sure if he and his dynasty will be restored to their royal positions of leadership. David acknowledges that there have been mistakes and perhaps his dynasty lacks its own merit. But, asks David, if the people have enough merit to return, shouldn't some of their merit be attributed to their leaders? Therefore, David beseeches Hashem that the Davidic dynasty eventually be restored.

פרק ע'

א.  לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד לְהַזְכִּיר:

ב.  אֱלֹהִים לְהַצִּילֵנִי יְהֹוָה לְעֶזְרָתִי חוּשָׁה:

ג.  יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיַחְפְּרוּ מְבַקְשֵׁי נַפְשִׁי יִסֹּגוּ אָחוֹר וְיִכָּלְמוּ חֲפֵצֵי רָעָתִי:

ד.  יָשׁוּבוּ עַל עֵקֶב בָּשְׁתָּם הָאֹמְרִים הֶאָח | הֶאָח:

ה.  יָשִׂישׂוּ וְיִשְׂמְחוּ | בְּךָ כָּל מְבַקְשֶׁיךָ וְיֹאמְרוּ תָמִיד יִגְדַּל אֱלֹהִים אֹהֲבֵי יְשׁוּעָתֶךָ:

ו.  וַאֲנִי | עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן אֱלֹהִים חוּשָׁה לִּי עֶזְרִי וּמְפַלְּטִי אָתָּה יְהֹוָה אַל תְּאַחַר:

1.  For the conductor; of David, to make mention.

2.  O God, [hasten] to save me; Hashem, hasten to my assistance.

3.  May those who seek my life be shamed and humiliated; may those who desire my harm turn back and be disgraced.

4.  Let them return in the path of their shame, those who say, "Aha, aha."

5.  May all those who seek You exult and rejoice, and may those who love Your salvation say constantly, "May God be magnified."

6.  But I am poor and needy, O God, hasten to me; You are my aid and my rescuer, Hashem, do not delay.
