Emergency Flooding Response Dear Neighbor, Our neighborhood was hit hard by yesterday's historic storm. Nearly 6 inches of rain fell in a little over an hour. Unfortunately, no system is able to handle that volume of water and the sewers were severely overtaxed. More than 2,000 homes across the North Side have reported flooding in basements. The Water department is working around the clock to address every single basement flooding complaint. Crews are checking the main sewers in the street to ensure they are functioning properly and drain them if the water level is still high. Any damaged sewers will be repaired on an emergency basis. If you got water in your basement, it is important that you report it by contacting my office or 311. Please indicate whether the water has receded or if your basement is still flooded. I also got some water in my basement yesterday, so I know how horrible it can be.
