Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Please say your Tehillim on Shabbos

BS"D

Dear Aneinu Members,

This week the world experienced the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch in Britain's history. Britain now has a new king, King Charles II. At the time of the queen's death, Buckingham Palace issued a statement informing the people of the loss of the queen titled, "A statement from His Majesty the King". The fact that this happened in Elul, so close to Rosh Hashana, made those words jump out at me. Maybe this was a reminder that we also have a king, the King of the entire Universe, and we need to focus on how we can best serve our King.

The days are passing quickly and soon it will be Rosh Hashana. That is the day we coronate our King. The shofar itself reminds us that we are standing before the King of the world. The main theme of our Rosh Hashana tefillos is our acceptance of Hashem as King and our submission to His will. We ask Hashem to rule over the entire world. It is only after we accept Hashem's kingship that we can then ask for forgiveness for the mistakes we have made.

It is a frightening thought that on this awesome day our King will sit upon the Throne of Judgement, and everything we have done will be scrutinized. No one is perfect, even tzaddikim sin. However, our King is also our Father who loves us and wants to judge in our favor. When He sees His beloved people yearning for the day that His dominion will be recognized by the entire world, and that we want nothing more than to be His devoted subjects and to do His will, just as a child runs to do the will of his beloved father, we can trust that Hashem will judge us favorably.

May we all merit to be inscribed for a year of good health, overflowing bracha, and hatzlacha, and may we rejoice together in the coming of the geulah shlema bimhera b'yomeinu, amen.

Please remember to say your Tehillim this Shabbos. As the days get shorter, remember that it is perfectly fine to say your Tehillim on Friday night. You may check the Shabbos Tehillim spreadsheet if you are unsure which kappitlach you signed up for.

Wishing you all a peaceful Shabbos and a ksiva v'chasimah tova,
Chaya Miriam
