Agudah Hosts Candidate Forums for Police District Council Hopefuls

Agudath Israel of Illinois hosted a virtual forum with the candidates running for Police District Council in the 24th district. Candidates Veronica Arreola, Marilyn Pagán-Banks, EdVetté Jones, Cynthia McFadden, Mitch Rose, and Daniel Wolk all joined the forum. District Council is one of the offices that will be on the ballot for the upcoming municipal election on February 28th. Empowering Communities for Public Safety (ECPS) ordinance allows for citizens to be involved in the public safety of our communities. Police District Councilors will have a real impact on how public safety resources are allocated and can also influence policing and public safety policy.

Some of the questions asked included:

  • What qualifies you to keep our increasingly dangerous community safe?
  • Would you use funding for public safety and allocate CPD resources differently than the current administration does? Take this out: (Or would you keep the status quo)?
  • Which mayoral candidate's platform on public safety and policing do you find yourself most aligned with?
  • Do you feel the Orthodox Jewish community has any unique challenges or characteristics when it comes to public safety, and if yes, how would you address them?

The forum was educational and enlightening. The link to the audio is available below.

Agudah is planning to host a virtual forum for the 17th police district as well; details will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.
