Dear ICJA Family,
We want to make you aware of a tragic loss for klal Yisrael with close ties to the Chicago and ICJA communities.
On Friday night, four chayalim were killed in Gaza while clearing out a booby-trapped tunnel. One of the chayalim who died that night was Major Moshe Yedidyah Leiter, z"l, son of Chani Weiss '77; nephew of Chashie Weiss Knobloch ''68; and cousin of Elyse Nagel '96, Naomi Weiss Lopin '98, Gabe Weiss '02, and Kaela Nagel '25. Major Leiter's grandparents, Phil z"l and Itky z"l Weiss were pillars of the Chicago Jewish community before they made aliyah in 1980.
As Elyse Nagel has described: "My cousin, Moshe, was no ordinary soldier. He devoted his life to the IDF, serving in an elite special forces unit for 15 years. He then left full time army service for the reserves to attend medical school. He was ready to start the next phase of his medical training when he was called up to Gaza. My cousin, a father of 6, died a hero defending Israel and Jews worldwide."
ICJA wishes our sincerest condolences to the Weiss, Nagel, Leiter, Knobloch and Lopin families.
