BRI PARSHAH TIDBITS

"For all the wealth that Hashem has taken from our father is ours and our children's; and now, whatever Hashem has said to you, do it." (Genesis 31:16)

Rabbi Nachman once said: The world says that a Tzadik does not need money, but I say that the Tzadik needs all the money in the world.

From this week's Parsha, we can understand this. When a person aspires for money only for his personal and family needs, it is called the "lesser wisdom." In the language of the Parsha, "all the wealth is for us and for our children." This refers to the lower realm of wealth because true wealth, when it comes from the side of holiness, as explained by Rabbi Nachman in Likutey Moharan Lesson 60, gives the Tzadik the power to contemplate the Torah, passing on profound Torah to future generations that would not have been revealed without that wealth.

As we saw with Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi, who organized the Mishnah, or Rav Ashi, who organized the Gemara, both were extremely wealthy. Similarly, in the Holy Temple, where everything was made of gold and rare beauty, from there Israel received its strength.

Therefore, a person should aspire throughout his life that all the money he has should be for this purpose. The continuation of the verse, "And now, whatever Hashem has said to you, do," instructs us to contemplate and see how we can progress in the service of Hashem. Through the merit of revealing the Torah, the fear of Hashem will be revealed in the world, and the false fear that currently dominates the world will fall and disappear.

Shabbat Shalom
