| It is difficult to find the words to express our profound disappointment following the Illinois General Assembly's failure to extend the Invest in Kids tax credit scholarship program. What was launched in 2018 as a "pilot program", had blossomed into a successful opportunity, providing a lifeline to hundreds of families in our community. Along with our coalition partners, Agudath Israel of Illinois worked tirelessly over the last year to extend this vital program. We pursued every possible compromise proposal to address concerns expressed by the Governor and the legislative leaders. Unfortunately, the results of our efforts were not what we had hoped for. Our community's resilience is indomitable and with Hashem's help, we will keep fighting for our families, our schools and our community. The heroic efforts of our families and the community support were not for naught. Your emails, letters, calls, participation in legislative events and trips to Springfield helped build support for the program from the majority of lawmakers. Most importantly, your presence at the polls gave a strong voice to our cause. We thank those legislators who, despite political pressure, had the courage to publicly support this program. We are incredibly grateful to the tireless dedication of Rabbi Shlomo Soroka. He worked day and night to preserve this program with focus and determination. When the legislative "spring session" begins in January, he will once again represent us with renewed commitment to reinstate this program. Our goal is to ensure our families continue to receive this vital benefit without interruption. It may not get easier, but we will not give up. Our children are worth the fight. |
