Introduction
An agent is similar to a worker in that he is expected to act in the best interests of the principal. If he manages to get a better deal than expected, the principal is not expected to share the profit with him. However, if an outside benefit arises through the agent's actions, the agent may be entitled to some or all of the profit.
Points to Ponder
• What is the main distinction between cases where the principal gets all of the profits and cases where the agent gets a share?
• What is the reason for splitting the bonus between the principal and the agent?
• If the seller specified that he is giving a bonus to the agent, can the principal demand a share?
• Do accounting mistakes in favor of the principal count as a bonus that should be split between them?
