Fw: [chicago-aneinu] Not Guilty!!!
Tokyo Japan - VIN News has confirmed reports emerging from the Chiba district court that Yoel Zev Goldstein, one of the three Israeli bochurim who has been imprisoned in Japan for unintentionally transporting drugs into the country, has been found not guilty by a Japanese court of law.
According to Ahron Nezri and Meilech Bindinger, who have both dedicated endless hours to this case and are in attendance at the Chiba district court right now, with the judge explaining how he arrived at a verdict of not guilty for Yoel Zev Goldstein.
As it is not uncommon for Japanese prosecutors to appeal a not-guilty verdict at the high court, the public is requested to daven for Yoel Zev ben Mirel Risa Chava to come home quickly and for the verdict not to be appealed. The prosecutor has fourteen days to lodge an appeal, should he choose to do so.
Goldstein will to be taken to an immigration center, where it is hoped a temporary visa can be arranged for him, allowing him to leave the country as quickly as possible and minimize the possibility of the not guilty verdict being appealed.
Arranging a temporary visa is no simple procedure as immigration officers will have to investigate why Goldstein overstayed the 90 day visa he was given when he landed in Japan in April 2008. By simply releasing Goldstein from prison, he will be in violation of immigration law and he will then be taken into custody by immigration who can then prepare the documents necessary for him to leave Japan.

The Monthly Halachah Discussion REVISED AND EXPANDED EDITION NOW AT KESHER STAM
ELUL IS COMING LEARN MUSSER FROM THE BRISKER RAV
The third volume of this comprehensive, well-researched biography provides a wealth of information on the Brisker Rav's life in Eretz Yisrael from 1950 until 1956. During these years he disseminated his astounding Torah and nurtured countless talmidim - in tandem with his uncompromising stand and battles against drafting women and grave desecration, both of which were the bane of chareidi Jewry in Eretz Yisrael at that time. In addition, this volume contains chapters outlining the Brisker Rav's perspective on child rearing, emunah and, for the first time, the "Zionist dream" and its demise. ELUL IS COMING RABBI LAZER BRODY IS HERE TO HELP
The world economy is going crazy. Why? People used to “believe” in the banking system, or “believe” in the stock market, or “believe” in the dollar or in some other foreign currency. But, every week, you read about another major bank that has fallen through the floor and closed its doors, another stock exchange that has lost 10% in a week, or another foreign currency that’s as shaky as an oak leaf in an autumn breeze. The closer we get to Moshiach, the more Hashem is removing the type of wobbly canes that people lean on. The stark international reality as you see from the unrest all over the world is that people can no longer lean on their places of employment, their employers, or even their pension plans. When governments, banks, and big business go bankrupt, currency and pension plans are worthless.
So what’s the lesson that Hashem wants us to learn, especially now as we’re inaugurating the month of Elul? We must do teshuva in relation to our livelihood. We’re not doing Hashem a favor by making this type of teshuva a highest priority – we’re doing ourselves a favor.
CHASSIDIC PEARLS BY RABBI LAZER BRODY PARSHAS REEH
The Torah gives each individual a clear-cut choice: Either fulfill the Torah's commandments and earn limitless blessings, or transgress and suffer the consequences, heaven forbid. Hashem gives a person free choice to do as he or she wishes; as a result, we can only blame ourselves for the outcome of our actions.
Oftentimes, we don't know the best choice, so we seek advice. Rebbe Nachman of Breslev warns (Likutei Etzot, "Advice", a), "Everybody has ideas about the way to live. But as far as the masses of people are concerned, their ideas are all bad and ruinous. And all the more so, be sure to ignore any guidance offered by wicked people. They are the enemies of truth and therefore one must stay away from them, for they are the source of everything corrupt and destructive. All they have to offer is the advice of the primordial serpent, which is the antithesis of the Holy Covenant. Anyone who follows it will be covered in filth. He will become alienated from truth, faith and prayer, and he will be unable to come to the Land of Israel. Have nothing to do with their ideas. Bind yourself to the true Tzaddikim and those who follow their ways. Their guidance is the 'seed of truth.' Through it you will be able to observe the Covenant in purity. You will attain goodness, truth, faith and prayer and be worthy of coming to the Land of Israel."

BAIS HAVAAD ON THE PARSHA ~ PARSHAS VA'ESCHANAN ~ HaYashar V'Hatov- The Straight & Narrow
The pasuk tells us, "Ve'asisa hayashar vehatov,"[1] "And you shall do that which is right and good." The Ramban explains that it would be impossible for the Torah to specify how to deal with a fellow neighbor or friend in each and every situation that may arise. Rather, the Torah prohibits a few specific behaviors such as gossip and revenge, and then states a general rule of ve'asisa hayashar vehatov, you shall do that which is right and good.
Our mission is not simply to comply with the rules of the Torah. We are expected to internalize the values reflected by mitzvos bein adam l'chaveiro, and extend them to our everyday lives. It is not enough o ensure that we do not openly violate the mitzvos; we must ensure that every action that we take measures up to the ideals of yashar v'tov.
CHASSIDIC PEARLS BY RABBI LAZER BRODY PARSHAS EIKEV
Rashi interprets the above passage by telling us that Hashem's principal attention is focused on the Land of Israel; only afterwards, does He feed the rest of the world.
The Ramban goes a step further: He says emphatically that all the nations of the world eat by virtue of the Land of Israel, for Hashem personally seeks her only; but, when Hashem seeks her out, the other nations receive their subsistence as well.
Rebbe Nachman of Breslev explains (Likutei Moharan II:71), "There is an intellectuality of the Land of Israel and an intellectuality of the other nations. The intellectuality of the other nations feeds from the intellectuality of the Land of Israel, for the main wisdom and intellect are in the Land of Israel."

[chicago-aneinu] Chicago Families Need School Supplies!
Here’s a mitzvah you can do for as little as a penny that should serve as a zechus for a refuah sheleima for the victim's of today's terrorist attacks and Chicago cholim.
A community member recently walked into an Office Depot where they were selling folders for a penny a piece. She bought a handful and checked out. Then she stopped, turned around and went back in – and bought 800 for the Chicago Chesed Fund for $8!
Office Depots around the city are running penny and quarter specials on lots of school supply items between now and Labor Day. This week’s sale will end Motzaei Shabbos! When you shop for your own family, please buy extra and donate it to the Chicago Chesed Fund.
Many of these specials have limits – and it seems that the community member got lucky when they let her buy 800 folders – but tell the store manager you are buying extra for charity, and you may be able to exceed the limits. Also, if you are a teacher and a member of Office Depot’s “Star Teacher” Program, many stores will allow you to purchase extra.
School supplies can be dropped off, in bags, on the porch of 8620 W. Hamlin in Skokie, Sunday through Wednesday, or at the Chesed Fund warehouse, 7045 W. Ridgeway in Lincolnwood, Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Tizku l’mitzvos!

[chicago-aneinu] Update! Triple Terror Attack
by Chana Ya'ar
Published: 18/08/11, 2:46 PM
Magen David Adom (MDA) has declared a mass casualty event and the State of Israel has moved to its highest security alert nationwide as hospitals report that five are dead following terror attacks that struck the country's southern region midday Thursday.
Authorities are calling for Israeli to donate blood at local MDA stations across the country. The area has been declared a closed military area and the IDF spokesman has asked people to keep away.
At Yoseftal Medical Center, 29 casualties were admitted with a range of injuries, including severe trauma. Seven of the most critically wounded were sent by medical helicopter to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva.
Two Egged buses and an IDF vehicle were targeted by unidentified terrorist cells in what appears to be a coordinated operation. Several soldiers were also wounded when explosives went off at the security fence with Gaza.
In the first attack, three terrorists ambushed bus # 392 about 30 kilometers from Eilat as it traveled on Route 12 from Be'er Sheva towards the city, opening fire with automatic weapons. Most of the passengers in the first bus were IDF soldiers heading to the Red Sea resort city on leave. The troops engaged the terrorists in a shootout, killing at least two of the three operatives and leaving a third critically injured.
Terrorists targeted a second Egged bus less than an hour later, firing a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) at the vehicle and wounding more passengers just a few kilometers from Eilat.
An IDF military vehicle was blown up as it raced to the scene, driving over an explosive device planted on the narrow road, killing the car's occupants.
A number of soldiers were seriously wounded in the attack.
[chicago-aneinu] Please Daven! 7 Wounded in Terror Attack on Road to Eilat
Five of the injured were admitted to Eilat's Yoseftal Medical Center in serious condition, and two more with light wounds following the attack. All were conscious while being treated at the scene by Magen David Adom medics and during evacuation to hospital.
Three unidentified terrorists ambushed the bus near the Ein Netafim junction close to the Ovdat military base on Route 12 as it was traveling about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of the Red Sea resort town.
The terrorists reportedly passed the bus in their vehicle, then stopped the car and opened fire at the passengers in the bus before escaping in their car, possibly back to the Sinai Peninsula, from where security sources speculated the gunmen had infiltrated across the border into Israel.
At least one source reported that IDF soldiers engaged the terrorists in a shootout immediately following the attack. Most of the passengers on the bus were a number of Israeli soldiers heading to the resort town on leave, sources said.
IDF soldiers and local police have thrown a dragnet around the area and are searching for the terrorists, as IDF aircraft comb the area from the skies. All entrances to the city of Eilat have been sealed off temporarily to cut off any additional means of escape by preventing the terrorists from entering or leaving the city, in case they are still in the area.
Conflicting reports indicate there is a possibility the shots may have originated from across the border at a point from within the Sinai Peninsula. Egyptian security personnel are conducting a simultaneous manhunt for the perpetrators from the Sinai side of the border, Israeli defense sources said.

[chicago-aneinu] Tehillim for Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Bnei Brak
The families of the Rebbe’s two sons, Rav Yisroel and Rav Mendel, and two of his daughters, Rebbetzin Ernster and the Belzer Rebbetzin, have been at the hospital to be near the Rebbe.
The Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Bnei Brak, who is the nosi of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah in Eretz Yisroel, heads one of the most illustrious Chassidic families in the world. In addition to leading a large chassidus of his own, his children are some of most prominent admorim in the world. The Rebbe has two sons and four daughters. His oldest son is Rav Yisroel, who has been leading the Vizhnitzer kehillah in recent years when his father has been unwell. Rav Menachem Mendel, the Rebbe’s second son, is named after the founding Vizhnitzer Rebbe, author of Tzemach Tzaddik. He serves as av bais din of the Vizhnitzer kehillah in Bnei Brak.
The Rebbe’s sons-in-law are the Skverer Rebbe, Rav Dovid Twersky, of Shikun Skver; the Belzer Rebbe, Rav Yissochor Dov Rokeach, of Yerushalayim; Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar of Kiryas Yoel; and Rav Menachem Ernster, rosh yeshiva of the Vizhnitzer Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.
