A short Insight into Judges, Chapter 15 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller
Since honey plays such an integral part of the essence of this perek, let us look into one of the underlying ideas behind honey. R' Zadok (Pri Zadik, Rosh Hashana, 1) writes that it is a widespread custom to eat an apple with honey on Rosh Hashana. We also recite a tefillah, “May it Your will to renew for us a good and sweet year.” The reason for this custom is based on the fact that each Shabbos and each Yom Tov throughout the year has a unique kedusha, holiness, contained within it. When Rosh Hashana comes along, there is a renewal of each and every type of kedusha for every Shabbos and Yom Tov in the upcoming year.
