A short Insight into Judges, Chapter 18 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller
The Netziv (Ha'eimek Davar, Devarim 4, 21) offers an insight into the worship of Micha's idol that unfortunately rings loud and clear in our time. The last possuk in our perek states, “They accepted upon themselves Michah's carved image that he made all the days that the House of G-d was in Shiloh.” We should ponder why there seems to have been a penchant for avodah zarah during the time of the Mishkan being in Shiloh (and during the time of the first Beis Hamikdash) more than during the time that the Mishkan was in Nov and Givon? Not only that, but it seems that the idol of Dan (Micha) was worshiped only during the time that the Mishkan stood in Shiloh. Once the Mishkan of Shiloh was destroyed, our possuk implies, the idol of Micha was no longer an issue!
