In our chapter, the woman from Tekoah offers various reasons that the King should not execute Avshalom for his murdering Amnon. She argues (verse 14), “For we shall all die, like water flowing along the ground that cannot be collected, G-d spares no one. [Let the King, therefore,] ponder thoughts so that no one be banished from him.” The Metzudas Dovid, in his explanation of the phrase, “G-d spares no one,” posits that since Avshalom did not kill Amnon directly, he was liable to “death at the hands of Heaven.” Thus, the woman from Tekoah was hinting that the King should leave it to G-d to kill Avshalom when He sees fit.
