[chicago-aneinu] Please Daven for Rav Shachne Zohn

Rav Shachne Zohn, one of the last remaining talmidim of the Chofetz Chaim and one of the tzaddikei hador, has been hospitalized after feeling unwell. Rav Zohn is now at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim, where doctors are treating him. He suffered a precipitous drop in blood pressure and high fever as his conditioned has been deemed serious. Rav Zohn, who is 101 years old, served for 30 years as a rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas in Brooklyn and authored the seforim Ateres Yaakov, named for his father, Rav Yaakov Zohn zt”l. In his later years, Rav Zohn has lived in Yerushalayim and has been rosh kollel of Kollel Kodshim V’Taharos for nearly forty years. In his youth, Rav Zohn studied at the yeshivos of Mir and Kamenitz in Europe and received semichah from Rav Boruch Ber Leibowitz zt”l. He is one of the few living people to have had the privilege of spending time with the Chofetz Chaim zt”l. Several years ago, Rav Zohn had a remarkable dream. In his words: “I saw the Chofetz Chaim…and he said to me to make known in the world that the redemption is close, and it is necessary to be ready for the redemption.” Being humble by nature, Rav Zohn did not mention his dream publicly. Then the dream was repeated. The Chofetz Chaim came once again and repeated the message, at which time Rav Zohn revealed the dream publicly. In his youth, one of Rav Zohn’s chavrusos was Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg zt”l, the great rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Ore who was just niftar last week. Rav Zohn himself had been to the Scheinberg home to be menachem avel the family. Over the last two days, however, his condition deteriorated. All are asked to daven for Rav Shalom Shachnah ben Ettel.

Chicago Botanical Gardens By Rabbi Doniel Neustadt BIRKAS HA-ILANOS: THE BLESSING OVER TREES IN BLOOM Rosh Chodesh Nissan marks the beginning of the season for Birkas ha-Ilanos - the blessing we recite upon seeing fruit trees in bloom. Since this blessing, which extols Hashem's ongoing renewal of creation, is recited only once a year, its halachos are difficult to remember. Women, too, may recite this blessing since it is not considered a "time-related mitzvah" from which women are exempt. THE TEXT OF THE BLESSING: The text of the blessing, as quoted in all of the early sources, is as follows: Boruch ata Hashem Elokeinu melech haolam shelo chisar baolamo klum uvara vo beriyos tovos vilanos tovim lehanos bahem beni adam. In several siddurim the word davar appears instead of the word klum. But since all of the early sources indicate that the original text had the word klum, not the word davar, and the reason for the change is unsubstantiated, it is, therefore, proper to follow the early sources and recite the word klum and not the word davar. WHEN IS BIRKAS HA-ILANOS RECITED? The l'chatchilah, preferred time to recite this blessing is immediately upon seeing a fruit tree in bloom during the month of Nissan. Most poskim agree that the halachah mentions Nissan since generally, that is the month in which trees begin to bloom. Accordingly, in an area where they start blooming in Adar, or where they do not bloom until Iyar or Sivan, the blessing should be recited in those months. In the countries where fruit trees blossom in Tishrei or Cheshvan, the blessing should be said at that time. If a tree bloomed in Nissan, but one did not see it until later, he may recite the blessing the first time he sees the tree as long as the fruit of the tree has not yet ripened. Once the fruit has ripened, the blessing may no longer be said. One who saw the trees in bloom during Nissan, but forgot or neglected to recite the blessing, may recite the blessing at a later date but only until the time that the fruit of the tree has begun to grow. The blessing is said upon seeing the actual blooming (flowering) of the tree. The growth of leaves alone is not sufficient to allow one to recite the blessing. Some poskim hold that this blessing should not be said on Shabbos and Yom Tov, since we are concerned that it may lead to shaking or breaking a branch off the tree. All other poskim who do not mention this concern, apparently do not forbid reciting this blessing on Shabbos and Yom Tov. It is customary, though, to recite the blessing only during the week, unless the last day of Nissan falls on Shabbos. The blessing may be said at night. WHICH TREES REQUIRE BIRKAS HA ILANOS? Birkas ha-Ilanos is said only on fruit-bearing trees. If one mistakenly said the blessing on a barren tree, he need not repeat the blessing on a fruit-bearing tree. The poskim debate whether one is allowed to say the blessing on a tree which has been grafted from two species, since the halachah does not permit such grafting. It is preferable not to make the blessing on such a tree. Some acharonim prohibit the recitation of the blessing on an orlah tree. A tree is considered orlah for the first three years after it is planted. Many other poskim, however, permit reciting the blessing on an orlah tree. During the year of shemittah in Eretz Yisrael, it is permitted to recite the blessing even on a tree which - in violation of the halachah - has been cultivated. BIRKAS HA ILANOS - HIDDUR MITZVAH There are several hiddurim mentioned in the poskim concerning this once-a-year mitzvah. According to the kabbalah, especially, this blessing has special significance. Among the hiddurim are: The blessing should be recited on two or more trees. No blessing is said on a single tree. Although the two trees do not have to be from two different species, several poskim mention that the more trees the better. Indeed, l'chatchilah the blessing should be said on trees in an orchard that is planted outside the city limits. The blessing should be recited in the presence of a minyan followed by Kaddish. Before the blessing is recited, V'yehi noam followed by Hallelukah hallelu Keil min ha-shamayim is said. The blessing should be recited at the earliest possible time, which is on Rosh Chodesh Nissan, unless it falls on Shabbos or it is raining.

One of the korbanos that are mentioned in this week's Parsha is the asham gezeila. This korban is brought by one who stole and then falsely swears that he did not. When the thief later regrets his deed the Torah obligates him to return the stolen item and to bring a korban asham gezeila. One of the forms of theft which are mentioned in the Torah is called oshek. Unlike a regular act of theft, where the thief actually steals an existing item, oshek refers to the issur of withholding funds that were obtained in good faith.(AUDIO)

Another mindset in preparation for Pesach is the reinforcement of the importance of family in our lives and actions. All Jewish holidays are family oriented, as is all Jewish life - but Pesach is especially so. The Torah emphasizes this point in stating that the Pesach sacrifice was to be “a lamb for every house.” In our time the family structure of many Jews has disintegrated, leading to great personal and national problems.

"And the Kohen (Priest) shall burn all of it on the altar, a burnt-offering a fire-offering, a pleasing aroma to God" (Vayikra 1:9). The Olah, or burnt offering, is so important that it has the honor of being the very first sacrifice mentioned in Vayikra, the book of Leviticus. We therefore must ask ourselves, what's so special about the Olah, and what is its underlying message for all generations? * * * The King's Cabernet wines were the best anywhere. The rich brown soil of the sun-drenched royal vineyards yielded plump, premium wine grapes that surpassed those of the world's most famous chateau plantations. The King's wines were not for sale; they were given as rewards to those fortunate few who served the benevolent monarch with extraordinary dedication. The King made one stipulation with those whom he honored – they must bring there own perfectly clean oak-hewn cask. Without it, they could not claim their prize. For twenty years, the King's personal valet had served his master faithfully and steadfastly. On the occasion of a royal banquet in honor of the King's birthday, the monarch decided to pay a special tribute to his trusty servant. The King wanted all his subjects to see how even a simple servant could attain – with dedication – the prestige that's normally reserved for noblemen. The valet prepared an empty oak cask for his regal prize. The cask was clean, but it still had the musty aroma of the peasant wine that the he was accustomed to drink. "This cask is not yet fit for royal wine," said the King, "it's clean, but its strong aroma will overcome the delicate bouquet of my royal wine. We can't allow that!" "Then what must I do, Your Majesty?"

Parshat Vayikra(LOOK AT HOW MANY VERTICAL LINES ARE ON THE SHIN OF YOUR TEFILLIN SHEL ROSH YOU WILL BE SURPRISED) With the construction of the Tabernacle complete, the holy structure began to fulfill its primary purpose: a conduit for communication between God and Moses. "I will commune with you there, speaking to you above the ark-cover" (Ex. 25:22). Before each actual communication, God would first summon Moses to the tent, with a Voice that only Moses could hear: "God called to Moses, speaking to him from the Communion Tent" (Lev. 1:1). What was the nature of this Divine call? The Miniature Aleph and the Four-Pronged Shin The word Vayikra ('He called') is written in an unusual fashion. The last letter, the aleph, is written in miniature in the Torah. Did God command Moses to write it that way? Or was this an expression of Moses' extraordinary humility — an attempt to 'hide' the aleph, so to speak, so that it would appear that God only happened ("vayikar") to speak with Moses, similar to the chance prophetic experiences of evil Balaam? We find a second unusual letter in the tefillin (phylacteries) worn on the head. Usually, the letter shin is written with three upward strokes, but the shin embossed on the left side of the tefillin has four. Some commentaries connect this peculiar shin to the Midrashic description of the Torah's transmission to Israel via black fire engraved on white fire. What does this mean? What are these black and white fires?

YWN FDNY Partners With Jewish Leaders For A Fire Safe Pesach

Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano, Chief of Department Edward Kilduff, Brooklyn Borough Commander Chief James Leonard, FDNY Chaplain Rabbi Joseph Potasnik and several staff chiefs welcomed more than 30 Jewish leaders to FDNY Headquarters on March 28, to discuss ways to keep their communities fire safe during Pesach. FDNY fire safety initiatives have significantly reduced the number of burn injuries during the holiday, which includes customs such as bread burning and lighting candles. “We all have the same goal today – to save lives,” Commissioner Cassano said. “It’s all about working together for fire safety, while still maintaining your rich traditions.” Advertise On YWN » Several years ago there were multiple burn injuries reported during Pesach that prompted the FDNY to coordinate education programs in the Jewish community about ways they can safely continue their traditions and reduce injury rates. As a result, burn injuries are down significantly – with only one minor injury reported in 2011 and none in 2010. “The more of this information we can get into the community and the more we work together, the better off we’ll all be,” Chief Kilduff said. During the discussion at Headquarters, Chiefs Kilduff and Leonard gave a presentation that included photos from fires that occurred during previous Passover holidays, noting how they started and ways they could be prevented. They also provided many fire safety tips for the home. Members of the Fire Safety Education Unit also attended the discussion, to answer any questions and hand out stacks of literature both english and yiddish. As the meeting concluded, many of the Jewish leaders thanked the FDNY for its commitment to keeping fire deaths and injuries down in their communities. “We’re trying to be sensitive to your needs, but also keep everyone safe,” Chief Leonard said. JI Maccabeats New Album “Out Of The Box” – Available Wednesday(IN NY)

Acapella fans everywhere were treated to extreme ear candy when the YU Maccabeats released their debut album Voices from the Heights, in March 2010. In November of the same year, they released “Candlelight“, a Chanukah-themed single. The song garnered international attention and became a YouTube sensation, receiving over 7 million hits. Since then the Maccabeats have performed at venues all across the world, from The White House to Hong Kong (and everywhere in between.) Now the Maccabeats are back with their second album now for pre-order to be shipped on Wednesday 3/28 on JewishJukebox.com. The new album “Out of the Box” boasts an array of 11 new songs and arrangements. They chose the name “Out of the Box” as the title for this album as a means of representing their incredible journey since their first album, “Voices from the Heights.” While on YouTube they typically perform in their signature colored boxes, this album demonstrates a commitment to stay true to who they are, beyond their post-“Candlelight” success. In line with their Modern Orthodox philosophy of Torah uMadda is a focus on remaining “Out of the Box” – fun, creative, and committed to serve G-d with all of their energy, faculties, and resources. The Maccabets remain committed to bringing meaningful content to Jewish music, with their hearts and minds in the right place, while celebrating the good and exciting parts of modern culture. The album includes hit songs, Rau Bonim (Y Shwekey), Yavo (MBC), Come Back (Moshav), Habeit (Aish) and more. Don’t forget to join the Maccabeats as Lamport Auditorium will be packed to capacity on March 28th for the highly anticipated release of the Maccabeats new CD. For Tickets: www.maccabeats.com

[chicago-aneinu] Possibility Jonathan Pollard will be Freed Before the Election

Please daven for Yehonaton ben Malka Arutz 7 Pollard’s ‘Handler’ Says Obama Likely to Free Him Former Mossad officer Rafi Eitan says “there is a good probability” Obama will pardon Jonathan Pollard before the elections in November. By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu First Publish: 3/26/2012, 1:50 PM Western Wall rally for Pollard's release Israel news photo: Flash 90 Former Mossad officer Rafi Eitan said Monday “there is a good probability” President Barack Obama will pardon Jonathan Pollard before the presidential elections in November and free him from prison by the end of the year. Eitan was Pollard’s “handler” before the American Pentagon worker was arrested for passing on classified information on Israel’s behalf. The offense, which is not in the classification of “spying,” generally carries a 2-4 year sentence in prison, but a federal United States court handed down a life sentence. President Obama, like those before him, have refused to grant Pollard clemency, despite his deteriorating health. “There is a change in the air among senior American officials,” Cabinet Minister Yuli Edelstein said Monday. Several unconfirmed rumors have circulated the past several months that President Obama will try to score points with Jewish voters and free Pollard, who has been incarcerated for more than 27 years. More than 20,000 academics, artists and intellectuals recently have signed a petition calling on President Shimon Peres to refuse a scheduled “Freedom Medallion” award from President Obama later this year unless Pollard is released. The petition said: “As citizens of the State of Israel, we congratulate you on President Obama’s decision to grant you the American Freedom Medallion, which symbolizes justice and freedom. Nevertheless, because of the very same values represented by the medallion, we cannot agree with your receiving the medallion at the same time the United States holds Yonatan Pollard in jail for more than 27 years when senior American leaders already have admitted that the life term in prison is immoral and unjust."

[chicago-aneinu] A Heartfelt Plea by Mrs. Chava (Eva) Sandler of Toulouse

Massacre in Toulouse A Call From the Heart by Mrs. Eva Sandler A Heartfelt Plea for Increased Light by Mrs. Chava (Eva) Sandler of Toulouse My heart is broken. I am unable to speak. There are no ways for me to be able to express the great and all-consuming pain resulting from the murder of my dear husband Rabbi Jonathan and our sons, Aryeh and Gavriel, and of Miriam Monsonego, daughter of the dedicated principal of Ozar Hatorah and his wife, Rabbi Yaakov and Mrs. Monsonego. May no one ever have to endure such pain and suffering. The spirit of the Jewish people can never be extinguished Because so many of you, my cherished brothers and sisters in France and around the world, are asking what you can do on my behalf, on behalf of my daughter Liora and on behalf of the souls of my dear husband and children, I feel that, difficult though it may be, it is incumbent upon me to answer your entreaties. My husband’s life was dedicated to teaching Torah. We moved back to the country of his birth to help young people learn about the beauty of Torah. He was truly a good man, loving, giving, and selfless. He was sensitive to all of G-d’s creatures, always searching for ways to reveal the goodness in others. He and I raised Aryeh and Gavriel to live the ways of Torah. Who would have known how short would be their time on this Earth, how short would be the time I would be with them as their mother? I don’t know how I and my husband’s parents and sister will find the consolation and strength to carry on, but I know that the ways of G-d are good, and He will reveal the path and give us the strength to continue. I know that their holy souls will remain with us forever, and I know that very soon the time will come when we will be together again with the coming of Moshiach. Please invite another person into your homes so that all have a place at a Seder to celebrate the holiday of our freedom. I wholeheartedly believe in the words of the verse: “The L-ord has given, and the L-ord has taken away; blessed be the Name of the L-ord.” I thank the Almighty for the privilege, short though it was, of raising my children together with my husband. Now the Almighty wants them back with Him. To all those who wish to bring consolation to our family and contentment to the souls of the departed: Let’s continue their lives on this Earth. Parents, please kiss your children. Tell them how much you love them, and how dear it is to your heart that they be living examples of our Torah, imbued with the fear of Heaven and with love of their fellow man. Please increase your study of Torah, whether on your own or with your family and friends. Help others who may find study difficult to achieve alone. Please bring more light into the world by kindling the Sabbath candles this and every Friday night. (Please do so a bit earlier than the published times as a way to add holiness to our world.) The holiday of Passover is approaching. Please invite another person into your homes so that all have a place at a Seder to celebrate the holiday of our freedom. Please bring more light into the world by kindling the Sabbath candles this and every Friday night. Along with our tearful remembrance of our trials in Egypt so many years ago, we still tell over how “in each and every generation, they have stood against us to destroy us.” We all will announce in a loud and clear voice: “G-d saves us from their hands.” The spirit of the Jewish people can never be extinguished; its connection with Torah and its commandments can never be destroyed. May it be G-d’s will that from this moment on, we will all only know happiness. I send my heartfelt condolences to the Monsonego family for the loss of their daughter Miriam, and I pray for the speedy recovery of Aharon ben Leah, who was injured in the attack. Thank you for your support and love.

YWN OU Kosher Addresses Kashrus of Keurig (Including Pesach)

Coffee throughout the ages has played an important and often critical role in people’s lives and daily operation. Be it in the halls of the bais medrash, at work, or even waking in the morning, many individuals look toward coffee as a vital boost to their daily energy. In fact, this beverage is so important to some that the Mishna Berura (89:22) rules that one may drink unsweetened black coffee before Shacharis in the morning, so that he will be able to daven with the proper concentration. This seemingly innocuous beverage has been almost universally accepted as kosher, with little issue regarding the vessels used, as most coffee machines are dedicated only for coffee. Recent technological advances in the beverage industry have allowed for private individuals to enjoy the taste of fresh brewed coffee — once the exclusive domain of coffee houses — in the privacy of their own home or workplace. This remarkable machine, known as a Keurig® brewer, allows one to brew coffee through the use of specially patented K-Cup® packs in a matter of seconds. Keurig brewers allow for specific varieties and blends for each individual, without having to make large batches or wait long periods of time for it to brew. Although this may seem very simple and easy to the average consumer, numerous halachic components need to be addressed to maintain the kashrus of the brewer. Included in these topics are the possibility of non-certified K-Cup® packs, kashering, Pesach status, and tevilas kaylim.

Last January we were asked to daven for a 7 month old in Lakewood that had whooping cough. The baby was in critical condition and had the name Rephael added. I received the following update: Hi Chaya Miriam, I wanted to give you some good news. My nephew, Rephael Yisroel Meir ben Sarah Gittel, came home from the hospital today after almost 3 months in the hospital! Although he still has a way to go to a full recovery and tefillos are still requested, we are all very excited about this real step forward. It was a tremendous Kiddush Hashem, as the hospital staff consider the fact that he survived and actually got to this point to be a true miracle. Please forward the family's continued thanks to all those who were davening. Shira Steinberg

S"A SIMAN 452 SIF 1 MISHNA BERURA SIF KATAN 1 The reason for this is as follows. The basis of purging is that the seething of the water takes out the /food/ absorbed in the utensil. In view of this fear, the Poskim write that one should only purge a utensil which has not /been used/ within a /cyclic/ day. [chicago-aneinu] Update On Petira Of Hagon Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg ZATZAL

The crowd of bochrim and avreichim at Shaare Zedek Medical Center is growing despite the late hour as talmidim are simply at a loss, incapable of internalizing the bitter news, the petira of their beloved rosh yeshiva and another gadol hador. According to MK (Degel HaTorah) Rav Uri Maklev, the meis will be brought from the hospital to Yeshiva Torah Ohr, most likely in the coming hour. He added the levaya will not take place tonight, but during the morning hours on Wednesday, 27 Adar 5772. A neighbor of the rav and head of Chinuch Atzmai Rav Avraham Lazerson expressed his pain and grief over the news, simply stating the loss for Am Yisrael is great and we must continue davening. He was unable to speak at length, apparently involved in making arrangements surrounding the levaya. MK (Agudas Yisrael) R’ Yisrael Eichler commented on the third loss in a number of weeks, beginning with the petira of the Nadvorna Rebbe ZT”L and then the Vishnitzer Rebbe ZT”L and now, Rav Sheinberg ZT”L . Rav Eichler simply stated that this profound loss for Am Yisrael is one that cannot be replaced, that the stature of these gedolim is irreplaceable, quoting Torah from the Chafetz Chaim. It was added that the niftar also merited meeting with the Chafetz Chaim. Eichler stated the light of the yeshiva, Toras Ohr, and the rav’s tzitzis, literally illuminated Mattersdorf and following his arrival to the community, it was never the same, significantly changed for the better. Rav Elchanan Peretz, a talmid of the rav and an av beis din commented on the loss as well, stating in reality, there are no words to adequately describe the loss of a pillar of the generation, a man who simply stood tall in his love and adherence to Torah, his clinging to Shas and his absolute totally emersion in Hashem’s mitzvos. “His love for Torah was incomparable and nothing stood in his way regarding his undiluted love for Torah”. One should remember that levaya will be taking place on Wednesday morning, and it will coincide with the levayas of the victims of the Toulouse terror attack. Rav Yonatan Sandler and his sons Aryeh and Gavriel HY”D. That levaya is scheduled to begin at 10:00 from the large parking area at the entrance to Har Menuchos. (YWN – Israel Desk, Jerusalem) --

[chicago-aneinu] Baruch Dayan Ha'Emes - HaRav Scheinberg

Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg zt”l Tuesday March 20, 2012 4:43 PM 10:43 p.m. IL/4:43 p.m. EST: It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg zt”l, senior rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Ore in Yerushalayim and rov of Kiryat Mattersdorf, who had been hospitalized at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim. He was 101 years old. At Yeshiva Torah Ore and across Eretz Yisroel, Tehillim was being said for Rav Scheinberg, whose condition had deteriorated over the past few days. Rav Scheinberg was a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in Eretz Yisroel. His wife, Rebbetzin Basha (Bessie) Scheinberg a”h, to whom he was married for 80 years, passed away two years ago. She was a daughter of Rav Yaakov Yosef and Rebbetzin Aidel Herman zt”l, the renowned mokirei rabonon, machnisei orech and Torah pioneers in America. Rav Scheinberg was born in 1910 in Poland. He moved to the United States at the age of nine and attended public school. It was actually his father-in-law, Rav Herman, who got the young Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg out of public school and into a yeshiva. That relationship came full circle when Rav Scheinberg married his rebbetzin. Rav Scheinberg attended Yeshiva Rabbi Jacob Joseph (RJJ) at the age of 14. He then learned at Rav Yehuda Levenberg’s Yeshiva Bais Medrash LeRabbonim in New Haven, Connecticut. At age seventeen, Rav Scheinberg learned at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchonon where he studied under the Meisitcher Illui, Rav Shlomo Polachek, as well as Rav Moshe Soloveitchik, and Rav Shimon Shkop (who lived in New York for a short period). After marrying his rebbetzin at the age of 19, Rav Scheinberg and his wife moved to Mir, Poland, where Rav Scheinberg learned in the Mir Yeshiva for five years. The Rov and Rebbetzin were from a handful of Americans in Mir at that time. Rav and Rebbetzin Scheinberg returned to the US and Rav Scheinberg became a maggid shiur at the New Haven Yeshiva, which ultimately closed in 1938. He then became the mashgiach at the Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in Queens. In the 1960s, Rav and Rebbetzin Scheinberg relocated from the United States to Israel, where Rav Scheinberg founded Yeshiva Torah Ore. Rav Scheinberg’s genius in Torah was recognized at a relatively young age, when he authored the monumental seforim Tabaas Hachoshen. For many decades, Rav Scheinberg has led Torah Ore with selfless devotion to every talmid. Thousands of its alumni have gone on to become roshei yeshiva, rabbonim, rabbeim, and professional lay leaders of Jewish communities throughout the world. The rosh yeshiva’s teachings and seforim are disseminated by his talmidim across the globe. Yehi zichro boruch. {Yair Alpert-Matzav.com Israel}

[chicago-aneinu] Update and Plea For Help

You may have heard about an accident that occurred on March 6 in Lakewood. A week after his bar mitzvah, Chaim Yosef Meir ben Miriam Henya got hit by accident on his head with a baseball bat, thrown by another boy, and sustained a severe brain injury as a result. He was not actually playing baseball at the time; he was dancing with some friends nearby because Purim was coming. When I read this story on a website called lakewoodscoop.com and I saw that people were posting chapters of tehillim that they were saying in consecutive order of sefer Tehillim for his refuah shelaima, I joined in the effort. At a certain point when I saw that the efforts were dwindling, I took it upon myself to try to keep the tehillim going non-stop by emailing those I knew to join in the effort. Someone brought to the attention of this young boy’s father that there was a person named “Goldy” (that’s me) who kept posting day and night that her relatives and friends were saying chapters of tehillim to keep the tehillim chain going. He contacted me through the website this past Thursday and invited me to come visit him and his wife and his son in the hospital, to say thank you in person. So yesterday afternoon I and my husband went to visit Chaim Yosef Meir and his parents at the hospital. It was a very uplifting experience. I met two wonderful parents who have tremendous bitachon and emunah in Hashem. The father told me that when his son first came to the hospital, the doctors told them he may not survive the night. Then they said the next day that he would probably only live for ten days because most of his organs were not functioning properly. Baruch Hashem the doctors were proved wrong. A few days later all the organs that were not functioning properly came back to full function. Why, according to his parents? Because of the tefillos and tehillim being said by relatives, friends and strangers all around the world. The only organ that has not gotten back to proper functioning yet is Chaim Yosef Meir’s brain. The parents expressed to me how much chizuk they are getting knowing that people care enough to take time out of their busy schedules to daven for their son. I told the parents that I will try to keep this tehillim going until we hear besoros tovos. I need your help to accomplish this goal. We are now in the middle of the 15th cycle of sefer Tehillim since March 6. If you ever find yourself with a few minutes of time to say a chapter or more of tehilim, please email me at hhgoldsmith@aol.com and I will assign you a chapter(s) based on where we are up to in the sefer (indicate how many chapters you would like to say). If I am on the computer at the time you email me I will answer you within a few minutes. If I am offline I will email you when I get back on and I will make sure you are on at the same time before I assign you the chapter(s). You can say the chapter(s) within a few hours after I assign it to you. YOU ONLY SAY THE CHAPTER(S) ONE TIME, NOT DAILY. If you want to say different chapters another day, email me again when you have time and I will email you back where we are up to in the sefer at that point in time. If you prefer, you can go on the website yourself (lakewoodscoop.com) and find the latest posting on the story. Then you can sign your name (real or otherwise) in the comments section and indicate which chapter(s) you would like to say based on where the previous poster left off. If the story is not on the first page, go to OLDER POSTS on the bottom, and go backwards until you get to the story. If you have a problem with this, email me and I will direct you. Please note that your comment/posting will not appear immediately on the site as the moderator has to approve each posting. Therefore, because of the delay, some people may end up saying the same chapters, which is totally fine. The father of this young boy recently posted on the site, “We cannot thank everyone enough for their efforts on behalf of our son. While it has been very difficult, your chizuk has had a profound impact. Currently Chaim Yosef Meir is much more stable than when he first entered the hospital BH . The prognosis regarding the brain injury though has never been good even from the beginning. Please daven for Chaim Yosef Meir Ben Miriam Henya and don’t let up. Have in mind ‘ein od milvado’ not only by davening but throughout your daily ups and downs. IY”H my next post will be when together with all our tefilos we will see the Yad Hashem that Chaim Yosef Meir will have a complete refuah shlaima.” We do not want to let this family down. We do not want them to think we have forgotten about them. Also keep in mind that there is another boy suffering as well – the boy who accidentally threw the bat that hit Chaim Yosef Meir’s head. Please forward this email to your friends and relatives…the more people who join in, the longer we can keep this tehillim chain going until, be”H, this young boy will not need tehillim said for him anymore because Hashem will grant him a refuah shelaima. And may our efforts bring a refuah shelaima as well to all the cholim of Klal Yisrael. Tizku l’mitzvos. Dasi

In this week's parsha the Torah tells us about all the donations that were given for the building of the Mishkan. Among the donations mentioned is that of the "wise-hearted women" who spun the goat's hair with their hands. These women provided all the spun yarn of turquoise, purple, and scarlet wool, and linen. The commentators ask how it was possible for the women to have actually owned the value of the wool they spun. This is because Chazal (Meseches Kesubos 65b) teach us that all of a woman's earnings belong to her husband and therefore the value of her spinnings would belong to her husband, as well. The Panim Yafos explains that the concept of a husband owning his wife's earnings was not yet applicable at the time of the building of the Mishkan. The Ksav Sofer answers that the reasoning for this institution is so that the husband will provide food for his wife. Since the husband is obligated to support his wife the sages instituted that in return he is awarded with all her earnings. However, at the time of the building of the Mishkan when everyone was supported by Hashem and being provided with the manna there was no reason for husbands to be entitled to their wives earnings.
