As we conclude the book of Shmuel, we learn that King David purchased the parcel of land where the future Beis Hamikdash would be built. After Aravnah asks King David why he has approached, the verses (21-24) relate the ensuing response from King David, “To buy the threshing floor from you in order to build an alter to Hashem ...” But Aravnah said to David, 'Let my lord, the King, take it' …Aravnah the king gave all of it to the king... But the King told Aravnah, 'No. I shall purchase it from you for a price.'”
