OU TORAH ONE+ONE EZRA 7:1 BY RABBI JACK ABRAMOWITZ
After these events, during the reign of Artachshast, king of Persia, Ezra, the son of Seraya, the son of Azarya, the son of Chilkiyah (arrived from Babylonia). The Talmud in Megilla (15a) tries to determine the identity of the prophet known only as “Malachi” (“My messenger”). The favored opinion is that of R. Yehoshua ben Karcha, who identifies Malachi with Ezra. This proposal is supported by the fact that Malachi criticized the Jews for intermarrying (Malachi 2:11) and when Ezra arrived from Babylonia, he enforced the ban on intermarriage (Ezra chapter 10).
