NAALEH.COM and YU TORAH Parshat Va'eira 5775 Catalyst And Character By Mrs. Shira Smiles
PLEASE LEARN THIS L"N MY BOBIE ESTHER BAS Yichiel Dovid
Towards the end of Parshat Shemot and again at the beginning of this parsha, Parshat Voeyrah, Moshe was told of his mission to go to Bnei Yisroel and to Pharaoh and to free his people from servitude to the Egyptians. Now Hashem tells Moshe again to go to Pharaoh, king of Egypt that Pharaoh should send Bnei Yisroel from his land. Moshe’s reply seems realistic, “Bnei Yisroel have not listened to me, so how will Pharaoh listen to me?” In the verses that follow, Hashem seems to be reaffirming the mission He has assigned to Moshe and Aharon, yet the wording is not a repetition of the original mandate, and it begs interpretation. “Hashem spoke to Moshe and Aharon and commanded them regarding Bnei Yisroel and regarding Pharaoh the king of Egypt to take Bnei Yisroel out of the land of Egypt.” This is then followed by a seeming non sequitor that traces the genealogy of the tribes of Bnei Yisroel and their leaders.
