May her family be comforted among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim. May her parents, siblings, husband and children be scooped up and given hisook. You may have seen requests to either raise funds for or to find "Ibrance" a medication she needs. [IBRANCE first was approved in February 2015 and also is indicated for the treatment of HR+, HER2- advanced or metastatic breast cancer in combination with letrozole as initial endocrine-based therapy in postmenopausal women.The indication in combination with letrozole is approved under accelerated approval based on progression-free survival (PFS). Continued approval for this indication may be contingent upon verification and description of clinical benefit in a confirmatory trial. The confirmatory Phase 3 trial, PALOMA-2, is fully enrolled. If you have any connections or might in any way be able to help her, her plea is below: Shalom My name is Esther Caplin, from Neve Daniel, Israel After a year of treatments for stage 4 breast cancer which has spread to my liver, my oncologist decided to put me on Ibrance (with Faslodex) providing me with a free 3-month supply of Ibrance that he had obtained from a former patient. Unfortunately, Ibrance is not one of the cancer drugs supplied on the health plan in Israel and my oncologist hoped to use the three month period to assess its effectiveness on me and to try to acquire more of the drug from Pfizer on compassionate grounds. While the Ibrance has succeeded in halting the spread of the cancer, the request to Pfizer did not work out. As buying the drug was not a viable option, I began a search in my support group (Inspire) for women who were once on Ibrance and since moved to a different treatment, the idea being that some people have Ibrance that is no longer being used. I was successful so far in obtaining enough pills for two more months of treatment. Only in American cancer support groups did my friend and her husband get responses that donating unused medicines is illegal etc. but we are talking about life and death and thousands of dollars of life-saving drugs that may otherwise go into the garbage. Esther adopted 5 children, she is now raising one of her grandchildren and is very central in her entire family’s lives, as you can imagine. She is an amazing, positive human being who refuses to succumb to her circumstances, is incredibly active and continues to surprise and inspire her doctors and all of us

Missing is 15-year-old David , who went missing from Camp Sha’arei Chemle in Roundtop New York (Green County). The camp is part of the Satmar [Kiryas Joel] Camp network David is a special needs child. He was last seen at the camp at around 8:00PM on Monday night. He was wearing the clothing seen in the attached photo of him. The search is being coordinated by The NY State Police, NY Forest Rangers as well as Catskills Hatzolah, Kiryas Joel Hatzolah and the Misaskim Organization. A State Police helicopter is assisting in the search, as well as K-9 Units on the ground. Dovid Don ben Miriam Fraidel is his name for Tehillim. Nachum Segal and Miriam L. Wallach ended their week of amazing Israel broadcasts with a visit to Yeshivat Makor Chaim in the Gush Etzion (south of Jerusalem) area of Israel. Yeshivat Makor Chaim was established in 1985 under the visionary leadership of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz (Even Israel). Today, the Makor Chaim Educational Institution operates a high school located in the Gush Etzion area, south of Jerusalem. “‘For just one moment, as if lit up by a flash of lightening, the true nature of the Jewish People was revealed.’ This is how Racheli Fraenkel, mother of our late student Naftali described the events following the kidnapping and murder of the three boys. So too, the special spirit of Makor Chaim, the institution where Naftali and Gilad studied, was revealed to all. In talks she has given around the world, Mrs. Fraenkel attributed the unprecedented wave of Jewish unity in great measure to the unique philosophy and special leaders of Makor Chaim. he Democratic platform draft committee recently voted to adopt language supporting a $15 an hour minimum wage, siding with Bernie Sanders and against Hillary Clinton, who backs a national rate of $12 an hour. Currently, the federal minimum wage is only $7.25 an hour. In this article, we consider the basic idea of a mandatory minimum wage from various Torah perspectives. At the time of print, there are reports that the Clinton campaign has agreed to Sanders’ platform of a $15 federal minimum wage. In this article we will examine the attitude of Halacha towards the regulation of minimum wage.

The Mishnah says1: “Ein mefarchersin, lo es haadam ve'lo es habeheimah ve’lo es hakeilim” – one may not embellish or dress up a person, animal, or vessels in order to attract a customer and sell these items for a better price. This is included in the prohibition of G’neivas Daas – deception – as brought in the Shulchan Aruch.2 The Gemara explains that this prohibition only applies to something that is old, but not to something new. One is allowed to paint a new item to make it more attractive and more eye-catching in order to raise the price. But one is not permitted to paint an old piece of merchandise in order to fool customers into thinking it is new. If a buyer wants to pay a higher price for something that looks nicer, let him pay it. But if something is misrepresented by the storekeeper, there is an issur of G’neivas Daas.

Can I use flavored charcoal briquettes for my barbecue? A. Rav Belsky, zt”l held that one may not use wine soaked wood chips or charcoal briquettes that contain wine flavors. Although the briquettes do not directly touch the food and are burned up in the fire, nevertheless they release an aroma which impacts the food. Not only is it forbidden to drink non-kosher wines, but it is forbidden to derive benefit from them as well. Although Rama (Yoreh De’ah 123:1) writes that nowadays if one is a facing a situation of loss, one may be lenient with regard to deriving benefit from non-kosher wine, this leniency does not permit one to use these briquettes l’chatchila, in the first instance, since this does not involve a situation of loss. Other flavored briquettes such as hickory and smoke do not pose a problem. They are unlikely to contain any non-kosher ingredients, and even if they did, Shulchan Aruch (Yoreh De’ah 108:1) rules that although it is improper to allow a kosher food to absorb a non-kosher aroma, it will not make the food non-kosher.

The entire book of Bamidbar is a litany of bad behavior, poor choices and a lack of faith that dooms that generation – a great generation that left Egypt triumphantly and miraculously – to death in the desert of Sinai. But perhaps the most tragic event on a human and personal level is contained in this week's Torah reading when the fate of Moshe is sealed.

It is fairly obvious to any unbiased observer of our current world scene that things are pretty messy right now. The economic markets are reeling from the unexpected decision of the British electorate to leave the European Union. The sectarian wars in the Moslem world in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Saudi Arabia continue without mercy, without abatement and with no exit strategy in sight.

OU TORAH Healing from the Trauma of Loss (Chukat 5776) By Britain's Former Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks

It took me two years to recover from the death of my father, of blessed memory. To this day, almost twenty years later, I am not sure why. He did not die suddenly or young. He was well into his eighties. In his last years he had to undergo five operations, each of which sapped his strength a little more. Besides which, as a rabbi, I had to officiate at funerals and comfort the bereaved. I knew what grief looked like. The rabbis were critical of one who mourns too much too long.[1] They said that God himself says of such a person, “Are you more compassionate than I am?” Maimonides rules, “A person should not become excessively broken-hearted because of a person’s death, as it says, ‘Do not weep for the dead nor bemoan him’ (Jer. 22:10). This means, ‘Do not weep excessively.’ For death is the way of the world, and one who grieves excessively at the way of the world is a fool.”[2] With rare exceptions, the outer limit of grief in Jewish law is a year, not more.

What is the meaning of God’s instruction to Moses to speak to the rock? Can rocks hear us? The short answer is — yes! Nature and all of its laws are listening. They listen for the call of redemption. They yearn for the redemptive light that preceded the creation of the universe. When this unifying light is revealed, the world’s divided factions become linked and bound to their underlying foundation.1 As Moses approached to speak to the rock, all of creation was listening. Tragically, instead of speaking, Moses hit the rock. The waters, meant to revive and nourish the people, instead became Mei Merivah — ‘Waters of Dispute,’ bringing conflict and discor into the world. With his impatience and anger, Moses introduced a framework of coercion and force into the world, thus debasing the universe. The world was no longer ready to listen in attentive quietude to the inner voice of the Infinite. The paradigm shifted from speaking to striking, from receptive listening to coercive force.

The Torah reading concludes with an obscure reference to the “Book of God’s Wars,” describing the Arnon canyon near the border between the Land of Israel and Moab. The verses are cryptic, and the Talmud (Berachot 54a-b) fills in the details with the following story: Just before the Israelites were to enter the Land of Israel, the Amorites (one of the Canaanite nations) laid a trap for them. They chipped away at the rock, creating hiding places along a narrow pass in the Arnon canyon. There the Amorite soldiers hid, waiting for the Israelites to pass through, when they could attack them with great advantage.

Moses made a terrible mistake. Near the end of their forty-year journey in the desert, the Israelites had arrived at Kadesh. There was no water to drink, and the people complained bitterly. God commanded Moses to take his staff before the entire people and speak to the cliff-rock, to provide water for the nation. Moses took the staff and assembled the people. But he shouted, “Listen now, you rebels! Shall we produce water for you from this cliff?” (Num. 20:10) Moses then struck the cliff twice with the staff, and a huge flow of water gushed out. The commentators scratched their heads trying to understand what exactly was Moses’ mistake — an error so serious that God did not allow him to enter into the Land of Israel. Was it a case of uncontrolled anger, as Maimonides explained? Was he punished for disobeying God by hitting the rock (Rashi)? Was it because he initially fled from the people (Ibn Ezra)? Was it for saying ‘Shall we produce,’ instead of ‘Shall God produce’ (Rabbeinu Chananel)?

“This is the Torah law: when a person dies in a tent ....” (Num. 19:14) This verse introduces the laws of impurity connected to death. But the Sages derived from here an important lesson about the essence of Torah: “Rabbi Yonatan said: One should never abstain from attending the Beit Midrash [the house of study] and from Torah — even in the hour of death. As it says, “This is the Torah: when a person dies in a tent.” Even in the hour of death, one should be engaged in Torah study.” (Shabbat 83b) Why did the Sages teach that one should study Torah in all situations — even on one’s deathbed?
