he Democratic platform draft committee recently voted to adopt language supporting a $15 an hour minimum wage, siding with Bernie Sanders and against Hillary Clinton, who backs a national rate of $12 an hour. Currently, the federal minimum wage is only $7.25 an hour. In this article, we consider the basic idea of a mandatory minimum wage from various Torah perspectives. At the time of print, there are reports that the Clinton campaign has agreed to Sanders’ platform of a $15 federal minimum wage. In this article we will examine the attitude of Halacha towards the regulation of minimum wage.
