BIRCHAT HA'ILANOT

The Halacha indicates that beginning with Rosh Chodesh Nisan, we may recite Birkat ha'Ilanot. It is a once a year beracha, that is recited on fruit trees, just before they bear fruit - while they still only have flowers on them. For a summary of these laws,

BIUR CHAMETZ - BURNING CHAMETZ

Due to the current situation, this year, there will be no public chametz burning as in previous years. You can fulfill the obligation of Biur Chametz by keeping just the 10 pieces of bread used during your Bedikah and disposing of it, but crumbling it and flushing it down the toilet. Another option is to place the chametz in the city-owned garbage cans and pouring bleach over the chametz.

ERUV TAVSHILIN

Remember to do an Eruv Tavshilin this year prior to the first days of Yom Tov. For a complete overview of these laws

CHANGES to DAVENING OVER PESACH - SPECIAL REMINDERS

  • Hallel – For those who have the custom to recite Hallel after maariv, this year they should not, even if they have a minyan of people in their own nuclear family. At the seder and during the day, Hallel is recited as normal.
  • Tefilat Tal - One does not recite "Tefilat Tal" when davening without a minyan
Mashiv Ha'ruach - One should not say "Mashiv Ha'ruach" during musaf on the first day of Pesach when davening without a minyan.  However, Rav Schachter recommends saying "Moreed haTal" at musaf. Then, from mincha of the first day and forward we omit Mashiv haRuach as we will throughout the summer.
