KASHRUTH ALERT HEADER

May 28, 2020

  • Please be aware that the B&W brand of bagged salads is selling bags of Baby Arugula with an unauthorized Florida K logo. This product is being sold at Jerry's Fruit and Garden at 7901 N. Milwaukee Ave in Niles, IL. and should not be used unless a thorough checking is done as detailed on our website: http://www.crcweb.org/NewFruitandVeglist.pdf

  • Please note that Jewel on 2485 Howard St, Evanston, IL 60202 is selling cheesecakes from Eli's Cheesecake Co. that does not bear the usual cRc logo. However, the plain 7 inch cheesecake with code number 876016 is cRc Kosher – Dairy (cholov stam) even without the cRc logo.

  • As many people are preparing dairy meals for Shavuos, during which time there is a custom of eating dairy, and some even bake dairy bread, please keep in mind that Halacha only allows for someone to bake dairy bread, even for Shavuos, if (a) the bread is an unusual shape so that one will remember that it is dairy, or (b) the bread is baked in a small amount that will be eaten in one day.  One is not allowed, however, to bake a large amount of bread (unless it is in an unusual shape as described above) and rely upon having in mind to only eat only a small amount of it. When doing so, the bread is considered to be not kosher once it is baked.

  • Please note that, due to a management change, the cRc will no longer be certifying the Deli Counter at Jewel 2485 Howard St, Evanston, IL 60202. It will be under the OU certification as of June 1, 2020. While the Deli Counter will become OU, the prepackaged and grab and go in front of the deli counter will continue to be cRc certified only when properly sealed and bearing the cRc logo.

The cRc wishes everyone a wonderful and uplifting Yom Tov!
