Subject: [chicago-aneinu] An Update from the Agudah

August 20, 2020

Dear Community

Agudath Israel of Illinois joins Klal Yisroel in mourning the loss of Harav Chaim Dov Keller zt"l, Rosh Hayeshiva Telshe-Chicago. In addition to guiding and elevating 6 decades of talmidim, Rav Keller was an eloquent and clear spokesman for Torah Judaism both in the written world and at our conventions and other events around the world. May the family and the Yeshiva be zoche to a nechama and be able to carry on Rav Keller zt"l's illustrious legacy for generations to come.

Baruch Hashem, several Yeshivas have already started their new zman, and the rest of the schools, yeshivas and seminaries will be starting over the next two weeks. Each institution worked tirelessly, investing thousands of dollars over the summer to upgrade their campuses with all the necessary safety precautions and have communicated well-planned and thought out safety protocols to their parent body. A big thank you to these institutions for doing everything they can to ensure that our children start the school year on time in a safe environment. It has been our honor to work together and give guidance to many of these schools. May each student have a safe, healthy, and uninterrupted great year of school!

Finally, if you haven't taken the census yet. Please do so soon. Your ten minutes can bring in tens of thousands of dollars to our community.

Wishing you all the best,

Rabbi Yitzchok Ehrman

Rabbi Yaakov Robinson

Rabbi Shlomo Soroka

School Update

A webinar being offered exclusively for Orthodox Jewish school leaders by the Chicago Department of Public Health was arranged by Agudath Israel of Illinois for tomorrow, Friday, August 21st. Renown pediatrics infectious disease specialist, CDPH Medical Director Dr. Marielle Fricchione, will present and host the virtual town hall, where she'll address challenges and questions unique to our community and schools. Agudath Israel thanks Mayor Lori Lightfoot; Julie Burnett, Director of Curriculum, Innovation and Reform at CPS; Dr. Marielle Fricchione, and the Chicago Department of Public Health.

New Covid-19 Tracking & Tracing for the Orthodox Jewish Community of Greater Chicago

As our children return to yeshiva/school, we want to ensure that the environment is a safe as possible, and if there are positive Covid-19 cases, we can respond appropriately. Having real-time accurate information to act surgically and swiftly is critical to keeping our schools, shuls, and other mosdos open and operating, while keeping the community safe. To do so, Agudah has created a platform that tracks Covid-19 cases in the community, and even helps identify through which venues the virus is being transmitted. In addition to partnering with schools, physicians, healthcare providers and other community organizations, the platform relies on individuals to self-report. They can remain anonymous and all information will be kept strictly confidential. This will be supplemented with a volunteer contact tracing initiative for the Orthodox Jewish community. If you are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms or tested positive, please visit: https://cojent.org/
