As it is Shabbos Mevorchim Elul, the month of accounting, during which we make a Cheshbon Hanefesh, a personal and honest accounting of the past year, and this should inspire a Jew for the work he must do for the upcoming year.

A Rashi Sicha exploring the meaning of the word Chazak. Rabbi Yehuda holds they were steeped in eating blood, although it's difficult to believe, that is nevertheless the literal understanding. Rabbi Shimon Ben Azai, who has a tendency to delve deeper, holds that you cannot follow the literal meaning, and therefore it must be referring to other mitzvot that need reinforcement.

Rashi explains "cleaving to Hashem" means to emulate Hashem by doing acts of kindness. Generally we interpret it to mean loving Hashem, but here it means something more specific. Rashi emphasizes acts of kindness that are not already mandatory. While every Mitzvah means connection, "cleaving" is a much more powerful connection.
