Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks

Baruch Dayan Emet. The Yeshiva University community mourns the profound loss of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks zt"l.

Rabbi Sacks was a world-renowned scholar, teacher and leader who enlightened and inspired, influenced and empowered, world Jewry, global leaders and communities throughout the world. He magisterially demonstrated the enduring importance of God and religious values in our contemporary society. His legacy will continue through all the lives elevated by his teaching.

For our community, Rabbi Sacks uniquely exemplified and articulated Yeshiva University's world view and mission to the broader Jewish people and the world at large. Rabbi Sacks was appointed the Kressel and Ephrat Family University Professor of Jewish Thought at Yeshiva University in 2013. He received the inaugural Lamm Prize and spoke regularly to our students and community, most recently delivering the benediction at our Commencement earlier this year.

We are all in mourning for his passing.

May his family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

—Dr. Ari Berman, President
