It seems that the Three Weeks have come earlier this year. The horror and anguish of yesterday's condo collapse in Surfside, Florida has shaken us to the core. We are deeply traumatized. How are we to go on with our lives when we know that our fellow yidden are buried under a mountain of rubble? Sounds of banging have been heard by the responders, and we hope with all of our hearts that there will be survivors. We wonder what kind of condition they are in. Are they injured, hungry, thirsty, ill? The darkness of galus is getting thicker and the labor pains are getting stronger and more frequent.
As I was davening this morning the words of the tefillos leapt out of the pages. "Baruch ata Hashem...Matir Assurim. Blessed is Hashem...who releases the bound." Please Hashem, help those who are trapped in the rubble and waiting to be freed. "...Chiyisani miyordi vor (Tehillim 30:4) You have kept me alive, lest I descend to the pit." Let's put more effort into our tefillos. Everything we need can be found in the wise words of our siddurim and sifrei Tehillim. Please have all of the missing and their families in mind when you say your Tehillim this Shabbos.
