The 17th of Tammuz - the day Moshe Rabbeinu descended from Heaven.
Upon seeing the Jewish people sinning with the Chet Haegel, he threw the Luchos to the ground.
The first Luchos were broken. And the holy writ ascended to Heaven.
The mystics say that the Luchos represent the heart. And as such, our hearts, too, were broken on that day.
The collective Jewish heart was broken.
But not to worry, Hashem cherishes broken hearts, too.
It is from the shattered pieces that the potential for a new, healed set of Luchos is reconstituted.
The 17th of Tammuz is a day of shattering, of breaking, of loss.
But there are the greatest lights hiding in the darkest of places.
