Public Safety Alert - Attempted Kidnapping | | | | Dear Neighbor,
The 24th District Police just informed me of an attempted kidnapping that occurred this morning outside of Cermak Fresh Market at 6623 N Damen. At approximately 10 a.m., an unknown man grabbed a 9-year-old girl in the parking lot. Thankfully, the girl managed to bite her assailant and escape. Witnesses intervened and then made sure she was safely reunited with her mother.
The offender was described as a Black man, approximately 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds with short dreadlocks and glasses. He was wearing a white shirt, gray pants, white gym shoes and a camouflage baseball hat.
The Chicago Police are investigating this incident closely and are reviewing security camera footage to try and find the offender. If you have any information, please contact the 24th District at (312) 744-5907 or the Area 3 Bureau of Detectives at (312) 744-8263.
This situation is obviously horrible, and the police are committed to catching the offender before he can harm anyone else. I am grateful for the victim's bravery and resourcefulness in saving herself and stopping a tragedy from occurring.
This is an ongoing investigation. I will update you when more information becomes available.
