Orthodox Union Mourns the Passing of
Rabbi Zevulun Charlop, z"l
A branch in the tree of Torah giants, Rabbi Charlop z"l was the grandson of the Yerushalmi Gaon Rav Yaakov Moshe Charlop and son of one of the leading rabbonim of America.
Rabbi Charlop's signature professional legacy marks the Jewish community around the globe as he stewarded the learning and growth of thousands of Musmachim and Talmidim of RIETS where he served as The Max and Marion Grill Dean from 1971 until July 2008. He was also the spiritual leader of the Young Israel of Mosholu Parkway, Bronx, NY, for 54 years.
Rabbi Charlop, together with Rabbi Yosef Grossman z"l, the former director of the OU Kosher Education Department, was instrumental in bringing the Harry H. Beren ASK OUTREACH Community Kashrus program to YU Semicha students, enabling them to learn firsthand the intricacies of kosher certification in a three week in-depth seminar.
Rabbi Charlop also played a significant role in introducing many companies to the OU in order to obtain kosher certification for their products.
Hespedim for Rabbi Charlop in the US took place earlier today.
The levaya in Israel will take place on Thursday, January 18, at approximately 2:00 pm (local time) in Beis Zevul (Shaarei Chessed), followed by Kevurah on Har HaZeisim.
The shiva will be observed at 55 Malchei Yisrael, Jerusalem, through Wednesday morning, by Rav Zev Charlop, Rav Alexander Charlop, Rebbetzin Leebee Becher and Rebbetzin Tzippora Raymon. The schedule of the other aveilim is not yet determined.
