Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Update - Devora bas Erika
Devora bas Erika is going to have to undergo many tests. Please daven she should be free of pain and suffering and be able to find the right sheleechim to help her.
*********************************
HaShem has answered the tefilos of Devora bas Erika, and she is home in Eretz Yisroel. Looks like she will be staying put for the time being. She is exhausted in every way from her journey. Please do not call or visit at this time, as she is just 'being'. Messages of caring are always appreciated, just let her know you don't expect a reply. I personally gain a lot from Debby's ability to find the bright side in every situation. She is always looking for the hand of HaShem in her life, and never forgets to thank Him for all her blessings. May He bless her with feeling good, regaining her strength, and basking in the love of her family. We Love You, Debby!! May we see the geulah very soon and all of our tefillos answered for the good.

    Dear Daveners,

Gutten Chodesh Iyar! Ani Hashem Rofecha—maybe for His Schechina?

This afternoon I experienced real feelings of total exile, acute pangs of exile being here in Maryland.

Hasdei Hashem, when I davened Mincha Hashem sent me a direct message—that I could embrace those feelings and use them to connect a tiny bit, maybe understand a tiny bit the Schechina's dislocation/suffering in exile, the Schechina does not belong anywhere and can't find a place for Itself in Galus.

Here I am, basically a fish without a bicycle, exiled from my family, my land.   In Parashas Lech Lecha . . ..

1And the Lord said to Abram, "Go forth from your land and from your birthplace and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you.

    RASHI:

Go forth: Heb. לֶךְ לְךָ, lit. go to you, for your benefit and for your good, and there I will make you into a great nation, but here, you will not merit to have children. Moreover, I will make your character known in the world. — [from Rosh Hashanah 16b, Tan.]

    from your land:
Now had he not already gone out of there with his father and come as far as Haran? Rather, thus did He say to him, "Distance yourself more from there and leave your father's house."

    that I will show you:
He did not reveal the land to him immediately, in order to make it dear in his eyes and to give him reward for every command. Similarly (below 22:2): "your son, your only one, whom you love, Isaac." Similarly (ibid.):  "on one of the mountains that I will say to you." Similarly (Jonah 3:2): "and proclaim upon it the proclamation that I will speak to you." [from Gen. Rabbah 39:9]

    :

ELEF Havdalas, but —Rashi says that the literal meaning of lech lecha, viz., go forth, "go for your benefit."  And so to, I came for here IY"H for my benefit.  That does not necessarily mean that it lessens the sense of exile.

I might fly home for a short visit IY"H, but I still have to return, and no one knows for how long.  The Doctor said indefinitely as long as the trial drugs are working, and IY"H they will continue to do so by the His grace. But nothing is revealed or known at this point.

So I was given a tiny and brief glimpse into the Schechina's dislocation and suffering in exile.  I was so grateful to Hashem for granting me that short bit of "bina" and or "haskel."  It brought me comfort to be able in some small measure to connect with the Schechina's exile. Maybe in so empathizing, maybe that took a drop of Its suffering away.  Disclaimer: please I'm making no grandiose assumptions or presumptions, chas v'chalila, about my abilities in that last statement.

Wishing us the ability to get closer and closer to Hashem, and hang on for dear life, as IY"H we move closer and closer to the Geula Schlema. . . .

    atb,
    debby

    From Debby:

BS"D Hasdei Hashem blood test that measures tumor markers showed marked improvement from before I started clinical trial 5877 to last week 3109. Pls keep up your good work davening and saying tehillim and thank you very much! My oncologist from Israel reacted to the results saying "it is a good sign".

    ************************************

Gut Voch, Gutten Chodesh, Chodesh Nissan-- a month filled with hope, potential, and open miracles.

A reminder and a wonderful idea from my hosts: before you eat every piece of Chametz that you eat between now and Pesach, say:  I'm being biur chametz-elevating every bite you take!

Thank G-d things are going as well as could possibly expected on the clinical trial. Hashem is carrying me through it as He has carried me throughout this process.  All thanks to the Borei Olam who showers me with every breath I breathe, every step I take; allows me to see, smell, taste, touch, to get from lying down to sitting, sitting to standing, to be able to use my fingers to type, etc. etc.  The list is endless. . . . !  I'm grateful beyond what I can write.  I just constantly beg Him that I continue to feel His presence always with me.  That's not to say that I don't have my moments of fear, foreboding, home sickness, etc.  But, I just keep turning to Him begging Him to help me internalize His incredible love and confidence!

We are experiencing tremendous upheavals. We are being shaken up literally physically, and spiritually.  Friday's earthquake's epicenter was equidistant (62.2 miles+) from Brooklyn, Lakewood and Monsey-the three largest frum communities in the U.S.

May Hashem grant us all the siyata dishmaya and rachomei shomayim to cling to Him as tightly as possible.  May He help us bring Him nachas ruach; to nullify our will before His will, and beg for His help to do His bidding. May we merit to herald the coming of the geula shlema in peace and soon.

    ***************************************

Be sure to open the picture of the clinic so you can see the address clearly!

    BS"D

    Dear Daveners,

Thank G-d all the interviews and medical tests are over for the time being, and I believe that the information has been or will be sent tomorrow to the Drug Company in CA that is developed and produced the medication I may be taking beginning 20-March.  The Drug Company has to decide whether it will accept me into the trial.

The trip went as well as it possibly could, thank G-d but here are some wonderful Yad Hashem anecdotes:

    1.  When I arrived at JFK there was only one customs official dedicated to wheel chair passengers--as you can imagine the line was very long.  Finally a second window opened up and it seemed to be moving along quite well, and suddenly that custom's official announced that he was closing -- and that the woman immediately in front of me would be the last person he would take! So I was wheeled back to the other line which was now almost twice as long as it had been before.  I asked the person who was wheeling me to take me back to the other line because the custom's official was still there.  So, he did, and I called out to him explaining I'd come to the US for medical treatment and did not tthink I had the stamina to wait another 40 minutes.  So, he said "oh alright, hurry up I'll take you..  Anyway when we had been waiting in line I asked the young black man who was responsible for pushing me, what was his name. "Messiah"!  So I asked that was the name your mother gave you at your birth, "Yes"!  Hashem has a wonderful sense of humor right?

    2.  So out we go and all of a sudden a beagle is next to me?  I said what's this I don't want a dog by me.  Then I had occasion to notice that at the other end of his leash stood a rather imposing custom's official.  He asked me whether I had brought food into the country.  I said yes, some cookies, pretzels and nuts.  So off we went and as we were going out the doors, I said to  myself, "oy I forgot I had an apple in my purse!!!!"

    3.  I had gotten a call from Reb. Leah Finkel last week, after she had found out I had come here for treatment.  She told me her "baby sister" lives in Silver Spring, and that if I needed anything I should call her--Reb. Yaffa Lopiansky.  So I very much wanted to get my hosts a nice fleishig meal and of course had no idea where, what, etc.  I phoned her and she said there was a place in Rockville, but shse would call and call me back which she did.  When she called back she told me that I could call and place the order under her name because she would have one of the Yeshiva Bochurim pick it p--since they had no deliver service, and that is exactly what happened.

    4.  The biggest Yad Hashem is that the company running this clinical trial held the slot open for me until I arrived and could be interviewed and tested, that it was here in a very physically pretty setting and I could stay with wonderful friends that I had known in Chicago.

Today, thank G-d, was a day with much less pain, first such day since I left israel--so much to be grateful for.  ---

Update from Devora bas Erika, Debby Mayer, loyt:

"Now my hishstadlus is to fly to NY to interview/apply to be accepted into a clinical trial (no open slots now) to vanquish the machla.

"I will IY"H be in NY from 5-Mar-2024 until 19-Mar-2024. I am begging Hashem to keep me calm because the thought of leaving EY and my family is scary and a complete anathema to me, but nu, nu.

"All this started just a week ago and it has been one miracle after another including but not limited to being approved for Medicare part B within less than 24 hours from the time I submitted the application — well, we know Who did that; and HE found me a place to stay on the upper West Side of Manhattan with a friend from many years ago. Now, He will help me work on getting me the interviews with the various clinical trial sites on the East Coast."

May Hashem bless her with koach and stamina and may this trip bezras Hashem be the conduit for needed refuos and yeshuos.

    From Debby:

HASDEI HASHEM, with the greatest gratitude to the Borei Olam, the PET CT came back with good results.  By Hashem's tremendous rachomim, there was almost nothing left in pancreas, and only a little left in the liver.  I have a long way to go but this is an incredible start.  The person who called me with the results said that they were much better than had been expected after only 6 Chemo treatments.  I will have to remain on Chemo for several more months (not sure how many—I guess I'll find out when I meet with the oncologist on 29-Jun-2023), so please continue to daven and say tehillim for me.

I thank everyone who has been faithfully davening and saying tehillim for me—my gratitude to you is overflowing!

    1) For the musician, with musical accompaniment on the sheminis instrument, a mizmor by David. (2) Hashem, don't rebuke me in Your anger. Don't chastise me in Your rage. (3) Grant me Your mercy, Hashem, for I have been cut down. (4) Heal me, Hashem, for my bones shake with terror. My soul is utterly terrified, and You Hashem — How long? (5) Turn back, Hashem, release my soul. Save me as befits Your kindness ... (6) for there is no mention of You in death. In the grave who will thank You? (7) I am exhausted from groaning; every night my bed is drenched; with my tears I soil the place where I have lain.  (8) My eye is dimmed from anger, aged by all my tormentors. (9) Depart from me all wrongdoers, for Hashem has heard the sound of my weeping. (10) Hashem has heard my plea; Hashem will accept my prayer. (11) They will be ashamed and will be utterly astounded. When all my enemies return, they will be ashamed for a while.

    (1) For the musician, a mizmor by David. (2) May Hashem answer you on the day of distress. May the Name of Yaakov's G-d protect you. (3) May He send your help from the Mikdash; may He support you from Tzion. (4) May He give consideration to all your minchah-offerings. May He accept your olah-offerings, Selah. May Hashem fulfill all your requests.  (7) Now I know that Hashem continues to save His anointed one. He will continue to answer from His holy heaven, with the mighty victories of His right hand. (8) Some [depend] on chariots, and some on horses. We call out the Name of Hashem, our G-d. (9) They slumped and fell, but we stood up and were empowered. (10) Hashem save! May the King answer us on the day we call.

    Psalms - Chapter 142

    1A maskil of David, when he was in the cave, a prayer.
    2[With] my voice, I cry out to the Lord; [with] my voice, I supplicate the Lord.
    3I pour out before Him my speech; my distress I recite before Him.
    4When my spirit enwraps itself upon me, and You know my path. In whichever way I go, they have hidden a snare for me.
    5Looking to the right, I see that no one recognizes me; escape is lost from me; no one seeks my soul.
6I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, "You are my refuge, my lot in the land of the living."
7Hearken to my cry for I have become very low; save me from my pursuers for they have overpowered me.
8Take my soul out of confinement to give thanks to Your name; because of me the righteous will crown You, because You will recompense me.
