Dear Chana,
"The Torah is compared to rain precisely to emphasise that its most important effect is to make each of us grow into what we could become."
- Rabbi Jonathan Sacks zt"l
This month of Cheshvan is the beginning of the rainy season in the land of Israel. Each of us has spiritual roots that draw from it. This land is irrigated by rain, not reservoirs or lakes. We use this metaphor to remind us that our souls depend on sustenance from above: the life-giving power of Torah.
Torah has always been the life source of the Jewish people as a whole, and it continues to energize us as individuals on a day to day basis. Torah provides meaning and direction; Torah study is our direct attachment with Hashem. As we strengthen our connection with Torah learning, we strengthen our vitality. As Rabbi Sacks notes, Torah enables our growth.
It is precisely now, as we have left the dynamic Mitzvot of the Chagei Tishrei and settle into a pedestrian routine that we lean into our connection with Torah. We realize that it is the ongoing, consistent droplets of Hashem's Torah that will quench our inner spiritual desire for growth and nourish our vitality.
Now is the time to ensure that we are קובע עתים לתורה - that we make Talmud Torah a fixed part of our regular schedule. As a community Kollel, we are excited to shower our community with dozens of daily and weekly Torah opportunities. Please take a moment to reflect on your personal relationship with Talmud Torah; we invite you to enhance your Torah connection through one of our Kollel's Torah rain drops.
Chodesh Tov,
