[chicago-aneinu] Hurricane Sandy

Dear All, As you are no doubt aware, the east coast is reeling from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Millions of people are enduring extreme hardship from extended loss of electric power and all the challenges that entails. For many however, including members of the Jewish community, the devastation suffered is far worse. Rabbi Yaakov Bender, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway, writes, "There are many families in town that have literally been wiped out... I personally know of many families who have lost everything including every bit of clothing, furniture, etc. They are literally left with the proverbial clothing on their backs." I know that we are all concerned, not just about family and friends, but about the the many of "acheinu b'nei Yisroel" (Jewish brethren) who are experiencing severe financial hardship as a result of the storm and feel a responsibility to help them. Our shul is setting up a Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund which will raise money for this purpose between now and Tuesday (11/6). To donate by credit card please go to http://www.shaareitzedek.com/ and click on "Make a Payment". Make sure to write "Sandy" in the description box. To donate by check please make checks out to STMY and write "Sandy" on the memo line. Tizku l'Mitzvos, Rabbi Reuven Gross
